re: Why do people say that Saban will leave Bama for Penn State

It won't be Saban. Jo Pa will finally retire when he's 91. Les will finish out his 7 year contract with a couple more NCs and nothing left to prove in the SEC and he will go to "Happy Valley" and return to the BIG Whatever Conference and stick it to Lloyd Carr and the faction that didn't want him at Michigan in 07 an 10. Michigan's coach will be Denard Robinson who never made it in the NFL. Michigan's previous 3 coaches in those 7 years were all "Michigan Men" starting with Brady Hoke who was replaced by Desmond Howard who was replaced by Charles Woodson. All unsuccessful! Wow wouldn't that be something?

Don't think he WILL leave, but he COULD leave based on several factors already stated, including:
-challenge of restoring a historically-great program
-flagship school in a talent-rich state that is located in a talent-rich region
-school with resources out the wazoo in arguably the 2nd best conference behind the SEC
-fatigue with the Bammers reminding him constantly about the indignity of them having to suffer through a 3-loss season

He will be in the company of others which more mirror the quality he seeks in good company. People from that neck of the woods see themselves on a higher plane than southerners. Yes, we live with it with our dragging out words in conversation to sound like they are twice the length.

pay me a dollar more and I'm gone, the honey moon is over after last season.

All of the Penn State fans I meet and all the Penn State fan sites realize that this is the most important hire in their program's history.
which is to say that this is the second hire in school history. Joe Pa, then Saban.

I always thought the Penn State job had been promised to Mike Archer when Paterno called it quits or dies, which I think will happen before he quits

wishful thinking on mainly LSU fans part IMO.

I've said all along that Penn St. is where Urban Meyer ends up. Be it next year or the one after that......whenever Paterno decides to retire.

He enjoys the resurrection of once prominent programs. Then gets bored and has no friends left.

Saban is now 60 years old. I think he coaches at Bama another 5/6 years and then retires at his lake home in Georgia. He will be too burnt out to tackle another program.

As a kid growing up in West Virginia, his favorite college team was Penn State. His respect for Joe Paterno grew as his interest in coaching progressed. To revive a once great college program would be his ultimate dream.

a) he is from that region
b) think he is friends w JoPa
so is URBAN (BIG time friend with JoPa) ..but I see Urban on ESPN (easy life) or even as an AD in Florida or another major school
no one can deny of job security with much less pressure than in the SEC.

I started this about 2 years ago. It just makes so much sense. He went to Kent State in eastern Ohio, is from West Virginia, likes the power offense and aggressive, hard-nosed defense that JoePa likes, he is catholic, his wife (no matter what you hear) hates the culture and city of Tuscaloosa, and it would allow him to repeat and rebuild at yet a 3rd major program where he could likely win a BCS NC in the time there.
He also knows that replacing JoePa is a rare, rare thing to be able to attempt, and the Penn State folks would love him instantly (yes, they would for you naysayers).
It makes total sense, so that is why i started this (someone else may have also, as all things in life) "plausible speculation"
So there. What's not to understand? Other than the weather, there is every reason to do it and no real reason not to. Saban KNOWS, as do most sensible people, that winning many NC's at Bama is doable but increasingly unlikley since the SEC West is so tough. Sure, that is appealing of a challenge, but so is Penn State a similar challenge. The added appeal to Saban is to show that he can recruit and win in the Bog 10, and against a tough SEC team.
If he gets the chance, I still say he goes to Penn State. It makes way too much sense.

You are assuming Joe Paterno will die one day.

I would think he tries the NFL for $10 million a year before he completely hangs it up
After the stunt he pulled with Miami, I'm hard pressed to believe he would get anything close to 10 mil.

Didn't he already do that at an even greater college program that had fallen even farther?
