Rein was the hot name of his day but as we know those guys are 50/50 at best when they get to the big time.

Tom Herman was a sure thing a few years ago. Turner Gill. Gus Malzahn. There's a new hot name every few years. The last time it really worked - a hot young coach with new schemes jumped from success at a mid major to a major program and had NC success - was Urban Meyer Utah to Florida in the mid 2000s. Everyone's been trying to recreate it since. Urban Meyers are in short supply.

I'll get crucified for saying this but the guy whose resume seems most similar is Napier except he isn't at a P5 school.
Might make the case for Tucker or Aranda P 5 schools but not as many years yet.
What is really wild is rein was 34 when he died. It is entirely conceivable that he we could be looking for his replacement this year instead of trying to find someone to right the ship. Of course he could have as easily flamed out but I feel like that was not what would have happened.
He had everything in front of him. A wife and daughter.
It makes me sad thinking about it.
