I think there'd be a huge advantage in hiring either Mullen, Petrino, or Malzahn as coach:
At least it would put someone else in the West at a disadvantage. Hell it might be worth a win a season right there.
Maybe Malzahn is a reach as HC, but with Chavis that's gold. Last year he had just about completed given AU a new offensive identity while LSU still doesn't have one.

No way in frick we should hire Malzahn.

id go after petrino in a heartbeat but his contract doesnt even allow him to talk to sec schools...
petrino would win a NT next year with out offensive talent...
imagine, petrino offense, chavis def....hmm...i just got wood...

Who knows whether or not Mullen was officially offered by Florida??
I've heard conflicting reports.

Then there's absolutely no reason to believe Mullen wouldn't come to LSU if offered. Nobody would argue against LSU being a much higher profile job than MSU and we all know money talks. I can't remember whether or not he signed the contract extension at MSU, but even if he did, that wouldn't necessarily stop him from coming here... Saban signed an extension before the 2004 season and we all know what happened less than a year later....

why?
Because he has been successful for one year at the college level with arguably the greatest college football player ever running his offense.

Petrino is not an option for LSU. He just signed a new contract and CAN'T leave for another SEC school this year.

And Mullen may be kind of frustrated at hanging 50 on UM and then having two of his biggest recruits decommit.
That doesn't happen as often in Baton Rouge -- and when it does you just call the next 4-star in line.
Then again, somebody from Florida said Mullen was a very lazy recruiter. LSU is a good place to be if you're a lazy recruiter, but I'd like to find out the truth about that -- and if so, you just can't have it when the arms we have going on in this division

I can why Malzahn is a popular choice. But LSU would be taking a chance when they don't need to. Malzahn has only proven to be a good coordinator for two years and one of those years he had Cam Newton. If LSU hires him, what is he going to do with JJ? There are better, more experienced options for LSU.
