BTW, how is tuberviles defense doing at texas tech? being he is so defensive minded and has the recruiting bed of texas??
That test needs to be applied after years 2&3, once recruits have worked their way into the system

People thought Petrino's pass happy offense wouldn't work in the SEC either. I've seen it work a few times and it sure as hell worked on Saturday. Even if it didn't work as well as it did when he was at TT, I bet he could do better than 100 in the nation

I never heard that. and Petrino has always run the ball a good bit, hence his offense getting the name Power Spread.

I'm just suggesting everyone look at what the more successful offensive philosophies have been built around, and the core of virtually all of them is a power running game.
That is correct. But, moving the ball is moving the ball. A short pass game is in essence a run game.
Bottom line is Leach>Crowton.

I think people thought that Petrino had a terrible record against top 25/30 teams when he went to the SEC. All he needs is a defensive coordinator and he's set.

let's see what petrino and Chiz do next year. both lose their qb's and a lot of their o-line. for all the les won with saban players talk, let's see what these guy's do w/o nutt and tubb's guys. petrino inherited a young talented team and chiz inherited a very experienced team.

we couldn't stop the run on Saturday either...was that a result of them passing so well, or, was passing a result of running so well?

Obviously the run and the pass feed off of each other. The first half we had the right idea in sending pressure. We got burned bad twice, but didn't bring pressure on either play and cut it out all together in the second half. I think that's the main reason they were able to throw it on that particular day. Give mallet all day by only sending 4 and they'll beat you even if they don't run at all.
The point is, I think Petrino shows that throwing the ball a lot in the SEC can get you a lot of points even if you do have to run pretty well to set up your pass. Mike Leach likes to chunk it, but I also believe he's a pretty creative mind and could figure out how to make it work. Especially given the stable of backs we have and will have for the next few years. Quick throws and timing patterns were 2 things that we didn't do much of this year, but when we did, it worked. I've been baffled all year how we continued to make a pocket QB out of jefferson with his bad reading ability, slow release and a very average pass blocking line. Our offense moved when we threw short, quick passes and put our QB on the move. In a Mike Leach offense the ball will be out of the QB's hand before he has a chance to get sacked. Like I said, even if it doesn't work as well as I'd like to think it would, I'd bet on it being better than 100 and something in the country
