I definitely thought it was time for O to go, but I’m confused on this timing. I thought it would happen the Sunday after A&M, and Woodward would announce the new hire on Monday or Tuesday. Been watching the Braves tonight, so forgive me if this has been covered, but who does it benefit to announce this right now? Woodward’s rep is that he doesn’t make a move like this without having the next guy in the bag.

And no matter how good Scott is, handshake agreements mean absolutely zero in college football. I’m not going to believe anybody is the next LSU Head Football Coach until he is actually standing behind the podium at the introductory presser. We’ve seen how fast shite changes. We had Herman until UT came in at the last second. Kiffin was Ed’s OC until Lane got that late HC offer. Dominos start falling and shite changes completely in 24-48 hours after the regular season.

That’s why, though I really like Aranda, you can’t sell the HC attached to a coordinator. Cause Herman could be all with Aranda and LSU (hypothetically), and something happens in January that opens up a HC position that Herman gets offered and can’t turn down, Ed taught us you hire the HC, not some combo of HC and his OC or DC.

I’ve been off the board, like I said. I’m not saying it’s wrong, just explain to me the benefit of the timing. I don’t see how it helps recruiting. And Scott could have told every agent in the country it was happening and started talks. He didn’t need this to be public to do that. School me, CCB.

Talking to my dad today (a lot of this obviously has to do with contract wording), but Woodward could be doing this to allow O to mess up somewhere to potentially avoid paying full buyout. Wanted to avoid a Miles situation too where if your lame duck HC wins out you’re dividing the fanbase for those who want him gone/want to keep him. I think it’s a smart play

Public relations 101.

LSU and the AD control the narrative this way. It’s very simple and the exact right move.

Woodward can now openly talk to people (agents and friends in football) about his search. He can reach out to agents without any risk of them leaking the story that O is not going to be coach next year. Remember the shitshow with Miles when he was unfired? That’s the kind of thing you avoid by having it out in the open.

The timing is to do with USC and Franklin.

Lsu wants Franklin and had to start paving the way before USC became the roadblock.

Mel Tucker is a convenient smokescreen.

Aranda is plan B.
