What is so special about Mark Stoops?

Can someone fill me in? What makes him such a great coordinator that he should command a million dollar salary? Is he really that good? Some info on him would be helpful.

Auburn is just trying to inflate the market to piss people off. according to a guy from the rant yesterday. Auburn started it by offering a cordinator the first ever 7 figure contract

One of the best DC on the market, he improved FSU's defense a lot.

I could understand maybe if you wanted to go after Smart or Chavis for a million bucks, but Stoops is not that great.

Coached Miami DBs from 2001-2004, when they had one of the best secondaries in the history of CFB. Had a top 30 defense at Arizona. Took over a horrible Florida State defense (not even top 100) and has improved each of the past two seasons. FLST was the #7 defense in CFB this season.
He is a DB-oriented coordinator who runs a 4-3, cover-3 scheme that produces turnovers. Plus, he seems to be good fit for what Auburn needs right now.

Thanks for answering the question. Sounds good.

Chavis is worth every penny you can pay him.
Smart I'd have to see be very successful after Saban before I'd give him a million.

The guy coordinates the #1 ranked defense in every major statistical category. Even if Saban plays a part in that, Smart knows what he is doing.

nothing but when things are failing left and right it's always nice to believe it will change because of one man
which it won't most likely but the Aubies are on the Hope bangwagon, good luck to them

Maybe. Or maybe Saban runs the show and Smart is a yes man. No way for me to tell until I see him without Saban.

Smart will need to go on his own before I would believe that. He has the title of DC for the #1 defense, but most won't believe it's because of Smart. Chavis is his own guy so you are right about him.
Besides Smart will only be leaving for a HC job.

I have barely heard of the guy outside of his famous brother and all of a sudden Auburn wants to make him the highest paid coordinator in the country. I simply have to ask....why?
