okay. If he isn’t coaching in LA, you’re not coming up with excuses like this.

Watch the highlights:

Lindsey Scott made it a close game late but they never had a chance to win. It’s like saying Mississippi State struggled against LSU in 2014.

Not struggle against sun belt teams despite an apparently large talent advantage?

36-12 after taking over a 5-7 team. 29-5 if you take out the first year. He definitely has a nasty habit of close games, but they win WAY too much for that to be dumb luck.

I love how since this board has opened, Napier supporters have argued how great his recruiting is, but now they're arguing "it's the same as the rest of the conference".

He has absolutely raised the Cajuns from extremely poor recruiting in 2018 (only 20 combined players 3* or higher) to second-best talent overall in SBC in 2021 (51 players 3* or higher).

Even so, that massive jump still only has the second in the SBC in team talent in a cluster of eight teams between 460 and 514.

So yes, he has simultaneously made an enormous jump in recruiting and completely outperformed the top of the conference despite very similar talent during his time.

Why can't he just prove himself at a larger program? Why is that all of a sudden unreasonable?

It's no coach's right to go from the Sunbelt conference to a top 5 job.

To who?

And what?

He can go wherever to whoever will hire him

This happens all the time. Coaches jump from coordinator to coach teams like OSU and Georgia (and got to title games). A position coach with no HC experience at any level is at Clemson (and won titles) G5 coaches have jumped to Florida and won titles. G5 coaches have jumped to Notre Dame. G5 coaches have jumped to Texas and Texas A&M.

Where did the prerequisite come from? You find the best coach you can—from all candidates—and move forward.

I think Napier would do very well, but he wouldn’t be my first choice. I just find it funny how hard some on here are trying to discount him.
