the option can be a lot of fun but it requires you to have a top 10 defense.
remember all those great teams from years ago - Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska. they all had great defenses that kept giving the ball back to the offense AND didn't allow a lot of scoring. those coaches were able to load up on depth in a way they can't today because of scholarship limitations.
and like another poster said - once you are down, you are out of options. they were pathetic in the passing game.
one other thing - you have got to have the right qb to run it at a championship level - there aren't many of those kind of athletes out there.

The option is successful against teams that dont see it much. Over the course of a few seasons it gets easier and easier to defend. The defensive athlete's in the sec would murk the option. Did you see what happened to Ga tech when lsu had time to gameplan against it? We destroyed them with a true freshman qb making his 1st start.

1 game is an anomaly. How come GT consistently ranks in the top 25 in offense if it gets easier to defend the more you see it?

Ga tech has not been in the top 25 in yards per game in the last 4 years. So...

This. Plus most of the SEC programs recruit and get the best and fastest defensive talent in the country.
I think it would be interesting to see some of the non-top tier SEC teams implement this offense (Vandy, Kentucky, Arky, Auburn) but I don't think that it could be successful on a long term basis.
