Watch out for Mike Norvell at Memphis (in general, not at LSU)

This guy had very big shoes to fill taking over for Fuente at Memphis. I reserved judgement until last night, but they held up pretty well considering that it was a revenge night game on the road against a very good team. They made a lot of mistakes, but they also hung over 500 balanced yards and 24 points on a very good defense.
No one knew what to think of this Memphis team after losing their coach and Paxton Lynch, but it looks like they found another solid coach on his way up the ladder. I have a feeling they are going to be a factor in the AAC this year. They get Houston late in the season. If they continue to get better and give the Cougars a game, Norville may start showing up on coaching search radars a year earlier than expected. Not for LSU, ND, or USC level jobs, but he could get a look from some lower P5 schools this offseason with the right finish.
Again, he's one to watch out of the Group of 6.

You don't want to hire a guy with one good season.
Couple of years ago Tim Deruyter at Fresno was that guy after going 9-4 and 11-2 in his first two years at Fresno. He really should have jumped and gotten paid. Now on the heels of a 3-9 campaign, Fresno's sitting at 1-4 with the 1 win vs an FCS school
Biggest mistake schools make imo is hiring a guy too early because he's the next hot thing. It's how you get Dooley'd or Strong'd or Hoke'd. LSU is a big program and should be hiring a guy with at least a few years of success not built on a few elite players or on the heels of another coach.

What are you talking about? If they hadn't shown up last night, OM would have broken the score board on them in revenge for last year. They held up pretty well, all things considered. Had it down to a 6 point game in the 3rd quarter before OM finally put them away.
He's recruiting better than Fuente ever did and certainly hasn't let the on-field product slip considering all the player turnover. He looks like a good, up and coming coach. I'm just saying he will start getting smaller offers this year if he keeps it up, with bigger ones to follow with another strong season. I bet he is gone after next year.
It's good news for Memphis. Fuente was the first coach other than Rex Dockery (who died in a tragic plane crash) to move up rather than being fired since 1974. They were a coaching graveyard for 40 years. Now it looks like they've made the move up to stepping stone with back to back great hires.

Did anyone actually read my post? I said he might get lower level P5 looks this year, with better offers to come NEXT year. He won't even get a look from a mid-level team after one year, much less an LSU.
As someone else said in an earlier post- This is the Coaching Changes Board. Not the LSU Coaching Changes Board. Memphis just happens to be my side piece team because I grew up here. This post has nothing to do with LSU or that coaching search.

It's a foregone conclusion that DeRuyter will be fired after the season's over. Should happen now, but the AD said no in-season change would be made.
