I decided to go back a few years to 2005 when Greg Robinson was leaving UT for his miserable failure at Syracuse. Here are some interesting quotes from UT fans around that time:

quote:

I find it interesting Texas' opponents were held to a 27% conversion rate on third down. Texas was able to hold Oklahoma to the lowest point total of the season, and the Texas defense gave up 102 points less than they did last year with basically the same team. He must have done something right.

quote:

"Didn't Texas' defense give up 35 points to Oklahoma State in the first half this year? Didn't they give up over 300 yards rushing against Oklahoma? Didn't Michigan put a 37 spot up against them?

Sorry, I just don't see what he's done that makes him an attractive HC candidate after only one year as an assistant at the collegiate level."

Didn't that same Texas defense shutout Oklahoma St in the second half after making adjustments, and only allowing 105 yards in the final two quarters.

Texas didn't allow one opponent to score in the third quarter until Michigan did in the Rose Bowl. That points directly to Greg Robinson's ability to make adjustments at half time.

Yeah we gave up 37 points to Michigan in the Rose Bowl but at least we won. Most of that problem was directly related to our inept special teams giving Michigan the ball at mid field all game long. Michigan only gained 352 yards on the game. You can take atleast 9 points off the board if Texas could have played atleast half way decently on kickoff coverage.

Texas ranked 23rd nationally in total defense giving up 320 ypg and 18th in scoring defense (18 ppg). I'll take that. That was also in his first year, the defense would've only been better this upcomming year if he would have staied.

I don't think OU fans should be talking about giving up points in bowl games.

quote:

Robinson brought a lot to the program, sad to see him go. I was surprised that he took the job. If UCLA continues to play like crap, Robinson could have been the next guy there.

quote:

Coach Robinson was solid and did improve the Texas defense in his one season.......

quote:

"Texas coach Mack Brown retooled his defensive staff with this game in mind. He brought in two top assistants, Greg Robinson and Dick Tomey, made them co-defensive coordinators, and asked them to give the Longhorns more heart and more toughness.

Their efforts were obvious. Oklahoma held the ball for 36-plus minutes, but three turnovers meant that the Sooners only got in the end zone once, with 8:07 to play. Robinson rubbed off on Texas, and a little Texas rubbed off on Robinson. As he ran up the tunnel beneath the cheering, jeering Oklahoma fans, he did his best Dick Cheney, dropping f-bombs and making one anatomically impossible suggestion. Yes, Robinson understands the nature of the rivalry."

quote:

"It wouldn't surprise me. Greg Robinson is the stupid count that single-handedly prevented the Chiefs from winning in the playoffs last year. His brilliant defense didn't force *one* punt the entire game. That guy is a complete frickwad, and eventually his shitty defensive schemes will catch up with him at Texas."

Uhhh... The kansas city defense is the worst in the league. I cant name one player on that defense, however I can name almost every player including their offensive line on offense. The Chiefs went out this year and hired one of the best D coordinators in the league, and the defense is actually playing worse, even losing to my texans

Robinson is a good defensive coordinator, and is way overqualified to coach for texas as a co-defensive coordinator. A fiery coach for the defense was needed at texas... How many points did oklahoma score last year?

I will take the frick everybody crazy arse defensive coordinator over a laid back guy. Thats what I want from the texas defense crazy arse insane play. Someone has to make plays, and the offense does not feel like it right now. And Gregg robinson is just what texas needs, someone to actually push the players to try, as opposed to applauding their efforts when they suck arse. That man will jump in anyones shite, grabs them by the face mask and proceeds to berate them.

Reminds me of the good ole days of texas high school football.

Les Miles has never met a lead he does not hate.
