So the debt was actually paid off?

If that happened then Saban is cornered at this point.

It was paid off and is in whoevers name it's in now. It's just not in sabans anymore.
I honestly thought this was pure speculation.

Well I guess that's possible.

None of those are even remotely likely except for Dantanio

Mora is very gettable. I'd also imagine Del Rio would be gettable as well. Fisher and Malzahn are possibilities if they wanted to wait until after the NC game, but that would be a long time to go without a coach.

They have screwed things up so much I think they lost the next year anyway, so if one of them is the one they want they have time

Doc, last week you thought Saban would accept by Tuesday of this week, do you see this the same now or a different time line?
Things change and I can't control any of that. So I don't know what you want me to do
I can only relay what I was told

Of course it was.

I doubt they'd pursue Dantonio just because of age and health issues. IMO the likely options are:
- Jim Mora, Jr (UCLA) 12/31
- James Franklin (Vanderbilt) 1/4
- Charlie Strong (Louisville) 12/28
- Larry Fedora (UNC) 12/28
- Will Muschamp (UF) N/A
- Al Golden (Miami) 12/28
I'll be moderately surprised if their next coach isn't of that group. I was told they expect to have him in place by the new year so I added the bowl game dates for each above

My hope. Not a texas fan or anything but I'd like to see that.

Doc,
I got that, I am curious if you are still thinking by Tuesday or have you changed your thinking on this. I was thinking Wednesday before things went crazy

Dantonio isn't leaving Michigan State

Obviously saban was getting a lot of pressure and questions about UT before he was going to the heisman ceremony for AJ. I'm sure he didn't want to be a distraction for him.

Saban was getting asked questions about a job that was not even open. It was inappropriate for him to comment about Texas and its program in any way, so he was not in any way going to comment about a job that wasnt open. If it was found out that Texas pulled an Auburn that will make everyone take 3 steps back and the admin at UT isn't dumb like Auburn's was back then.
Now the job is officially opened, I am sure Texas has made some calls to Sexton, but are they about Saban or another client or both? Nobody knows except Sexton, Patterson, and the clients. None of those people will talk.

Does Texas have a timetable? Or is this search likely to carry over into the new year as they wait for NFL coaches to finish their seasons?
Posted on 12/16/13 at 2:21 pm to TheDoc
As a Texas fan I hope Franklin first and Briles second up being the coach.
Franklin- knows how to operate at an institution of high academic standing, young, energetic, x and o hard nose coach. He would probably still let mack brown haveaccess and be a mentor. He would toughen up Texas which is exactly what they need.
Briles because he is Texas through and through and a good coach. Has a bit if a rough reputation but I would take him.
No of the others on the list excite me or seem realistic.
Fisher, timeline may not work out.
Shaw, no intrest on bis part.
Malzahn, not enough head coach experience.
Nfl guy, I'm to worried they may not be good recruiters or ego to big to let Mack visit.
Strong, does not excite me. His standards are to low for the university of Texas. In his lockerroom he has a list of core values posted, one of which is no guns. If one if your core values as a football program is no guns, you need to raise the standards of who you recruut.

I have no idea but it seems to me that they have screwed things up so badly the time table is not as critical. None of their incomings have backed out that I know of, so I do not think waiting till the New Year for them makes much difference.

You left off John Harbaugh, are the rumors he expressed interest false? If he really wants the job, I would wait out the end of the NFL season for him.
