Speaking to the Rotary Club of Birmingham this afternoon, Auburn University President Jay Gogue punted when the first question from the audience asked the status of football coach Tommy Tuberville.

"We met with coach on Monday, had a chance to sit down and visit a couple of hours," Gogue said of the session with Tuberville and AD Jay Jacobs. "Basically, as president of the university, I've asked the athletics' director to spend time with coach and if there is a proposal or modification of the contract, to let us know."

After the meeting, Gogue was only a little more expansive.

"I know my meeting with Tommy went very well and the meeting Jay and Tommy had also went very well," Gogue said. "We're looking at issues like extending the contract. I think we have until Saturday to make whatever changes in the contract might be made and after that I think Tommy has until the end of December to look the contract over."

Gogue said he was aware of no significant sticking points hanging up a new deal between AU and Tuberville.

Not sure what this means but here it goes:From Hogville.

FYI... The flight from Rogers, AR to Auburn, AL then onward to Tunica is a plane owned by Griffin Ag, Inc. based out of Helena. The owner of Griffin Ag is David Griffin. If you check out this article from when Nutt was first hired, you'll see some very interesting information.

"Nobody offered Tuberville the job outright. But committee members said Broyles did tell Tuberville what kind of money he could expect to earn if he agreed to come through the final interview stage in Fayetteville and if he was hired. The committee never agreed to recommend Tuberville. "When they got split, Tommy said he was pulling out," said David Griffin of West Helena. "If he wasn't needed, then he wasn't interested." Griffin relayed information between Broyles and Tuberville last week and perhaps longer -- "for a while," he said -- that allowed Tuberville to say repeatedly, and truthfully, that he had not talked to anybody from Arkansas until the interview.
