You want to talk about killing the BAMA people. What if Tubby leaves and Saban takes the Auburn job. WOW...I can't even imagine. That would be tenfold the disaster of him going back to LSU.

Arkansas would be looking at Tubby's $6 mil. buy out and Nutt's $3.65 mil. parting gift, before they could pay Tubby the first cent of his base salary.

That is a bunch of scratch just to get what you want.

Things may be changing.

Birmingham CBS affiliate is reporting Arkansas has contacted Auburn and asked if Auburn will lower the amount of the buyout.

I didn't hear it myself, but it is being reported on the AL.com Auburn boards.

Arkansas will find a way to screw this up.

Wally mentioned that 3.65 mil. this morning when talking about Chancellor White's athletic moves.
under White: Susie Gardner, Stan Heath, 90 grand to a head-hunter for the name of John Pelphrey, and now the money for the Nuttster.

Susie and Stan have taken other jobs so arkansas pays the difference. I may start looking into becoming a sports agent.

If auburn lowers the buyout (which I think is unlikely), they have to have someone waiting in the wings. Petrino might finally make it to auburn afterall.

maybe you're right. i just keep going back to what Stuttgart has kept mentioning about the exit pay for Nutt + whatever it may cost to get TT. i've heard others say they think the Raz Foundation has 20-25 mil. liquid, but damn that's still a lot of cheese to fire HDN and get Tubbs.

i realize too that prolly Houston's 3.65 mil. get's chopped now that he's employed...but still.

I don't see Petrino leaving the Falcons for two reasons.

One, he seems to have an ego matched only by that of Saban. The Falcons stink this year, not of Petrino's doing, but I think he would like to have a mildly successful NFL run before jumping back to college.

Two, his current boss is a very smart business man. Arthur Blank (and then business partner Bernie Marcus) didn't turn Home Depot into a multi-billion dollar company by sheer luck. I have a feeling there are some pretty hefty buyout clauses in Petrino's contract - ones that would probably take Tuberville's $6 million buyout and then some to pay off.

I'm pretty sure the 20-25 mill thing is true. They have some rich arse boosters. I've also heard Tyson wants to take control of the thing and offer money to Butch Davis himself. As far as Petrino I just think he might be shellshocked by the NFL this year. I've heard he's looking to get out, and you gotta think AU would be at the top of his list if he starts looking to college.

That may be true. I still think there is a huge buyout clause in that Falcons contract. Maybe not, but if I was Blank and knew how Petrino waffled on a few other offers in the past I sure would have put it in there.
