Timing

O.K. the timing of what happened today is a little more than coincidental as far as I’m concerned.
Les Miles talks to Michigan again AFTER he says he isn’t going anywhere. LSU sends out a press release today stating that Miles is staying put. Later that day Petrino leaves the Falcons for Ar-Kansas.
Coincidence? Perhaps. But is it possible that Miles was low-balled (perhaps for a second time) by Michigan. It seems to me like Michigan told Miles, hey this is all we’re going to pay our next coach. And Miles (insulted by the offer) said thanks but no thanks, I can make 3 times the money at LSU.
I think today was Miles’ official turndown of Michigan’s last-best offer.
I also think Petrino was waiting to see what Miles would do, thinking he might have a shot at a potential coaching vacancy at LSU. When he perceived that door closed, Petrino jumped on Ar-Kansas.
Again, this could all be coincidence but I’m not 100 percent sure it is.
The question now becomes, was Michigan telling the truth and are they only going to pay a third of what LSU is paying Miles for its next coach or were they trying to get Miles on the cheap knowing how badly he wants to go there?
Michigan might land someone for the kind of money they offered Miles. But if they don’t get somebody in place and this thing drags on until after Jan. 8, it’s going to get real interesting to see if Michigan comes up with the dough to lure Miles away.
Flame away...oh, and don't forget those black helicopters. Those are always cool.
