Any perceived weaknesses or impediments in TAF's cash flow or support from its members is communicated as a matter of courtesy and implicit obligation, not as a threat.
then I would say the conversation needs to be, "we've taken a lot of calls from donors who don't like the direction the football team is going in, and it possible we may see some declines"....vs. "we have members saying they will not donate if Gary Crowton isn't fired"
this really isn't any different than a board of directors telling a CEO that their concerned about the performance of the midwest region vs. telling him to fire the midwest VP.
if the perception is that somehow TAF instigated the firing of a coach, it would hurt more than help the university, IMO.

You don't think Motel Chains and other businesses make more money when LSU is successful?
Have you ever been to a game at Tiger Stadium? How many TAF donors do you think actually own motel chains in Baton Rouge? Hardly anyone stays at a hotel/motel the weekend of an LSU game. The only hotel in town that stays booked for game days is the Lod Cook. Most drive in for day, or bring a motor home.
So no, their livelihoods still don't depend solely on LSU football. The coaches...absolutely. The AD....sure. Not the TAF donors that was being refered to.

LSU can not slip from Elite status
already have
Are you freaking 'tarded? Down year? Maybe. No longer elite? STFU. I have the feeling anything less than a NC for you fricks is a down year. Unrealistic trolls that just discovered LSU football within the last 5 or 6 years. You people know nothing!

5 and 4 loss teams aren't elite
Yeah well, 2 years ago tonight, we won our 2 BCS title in 5 seasons...that is Elite Elite, and we should have won a 3rd...
We have not lost Elite status in terms of the name LSU....and how much it means for other programs to beat LSU
True, 4 losses is not Elite....performance...but because it's not Elite, that is why LSU is still Elite
Expectations are the key to Elite status IMHO...

I guess those folks that drive in carry a bag lunch and don't buy anything within fifty miles of Baton Rouge.

over a 2 year period it isn't that big of a deal when you've won 3 conference titles, 4 BCS games and 2 MNC's in the decade. The program is still highly ranked in recruiting and will have probably 80% of it's games broadcast to the entire country on a major network next year. It's still elite at this moment in time.

So everyone that own's a restraunt is a TAF donor?
And doesn't LSU have a great tailgating tradition where many, maybe most are cooking before the games?
BTW, if you knew anything about LSU football besides the last few years ( 5 to 6) you would know that even during the Archer, Hallman, and DiNardo years restraunts were always full. You can only serve so many in a day anyway.

TAF has over $120 million in bond obligations outstanding, according to its last audited financial statements. That's not including almost another $20 million in other contractual obligations. When those guys talk about money, they don't do a mating dance involving semantics. There's too much $$$ at stake.

oh I agree...and as I've said, it's a fine line. I would hope that donors would realize that withholding money over minor issues like this isn't good for the overall health of the program.
(yes, I know some of you do not consider it a minor issue)

i work in the hilton downtown, and i can tell you that statement is incorrect. gameweekends are the only times we are a 100% occupied in hurricane season. conventions and businessmen tend to stay away in the months that end in "r" because of the last few years.
and the people that "run" that place have money flowing through lsu. i promise.

WRONG!!
The hotels are full. And so are the resturants. Just ask those of us who come from North La.
