In 1987, LSU promoted DC Mike Archer to be the HC when Arnsparger left to be the AD at Florida. He was hired over Steve Spurrier, Mack Brown and Mike Shanahan. LSU was as high as #5 in the nation in 87. This hire is why LSU football was irrelevant in the 90s for you young folks.
