There aren’t 13 SEC tie-ins.

The game is January 4th. You get, what? 12 practices to use whenever? We could backload most of those and Kelly and staff may actually have time to implement a few things, or at the very least just be an extreme CEO HC, just deciding on timeouts and what to do on 4th downs and such.

Kelly made it pretty clear at his press conference that he wasn’t going to change anything with the bowl game. I also don’t see any use in him trying to implement any scheme elements ahead of time. That will just confuse things with too little time to make significant changes.

What the bowl practices will give Kelly is time to really evaluate the players on the roster before Spring Practice. Not every new incoming coach gets that opportunity and it can be valuable. That whole process will set the table for Spring and give the new staff a good idea of who they need to focus on keeping, and who might need to be encouraged to hit the portal.

I have a feeling Kelly will have his hands full between this, finishing out the staff, getting ready for the late signing period and, you know, moving 1,000 miles to Baton Rouge. I know he won’t be boxing shite up, but that’s still a process, even when you have a lot of money.
