This thread reminds me of being at a Walmart in Bowie, Texas, in the 1980s.
A man came in wanting a Charlie Pride album. He was very effusive in his praise of Pride's singing abilities and was anxious to purchase his record.
But when he saw the record cover that featured Charlie Pride's face, he slinked off in disgust about how he'd never listen to another song from that "son of a bitch."
