Since we're all speculating here, how about this twist?.....

Michigan can't find a coach that they'd be willing to commit to for long term....meaning more than 1-2 years.....especially, if they really want Miles as soon as they can get him.
Therefore, they consult with Miles on everything from hiring an interim head coach with one of their existing coordinators -or- a new DC or OC that would be Miles' personal pick to stay as an assistant head coach in 2009 or 2010.
That way, Miles could save face with LSU by staying at LSU at least 1 more year, then be set up to have his contract buyout and move on to Michigan in 1-2 years.......
I am a strong believer that Miles will keep his word about coaching LSU next year, but don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that this is the way this thing plays out....
especially with UM struggling to find a coach, this may be their backup gameplan to get Miles without forcing anyone (Miles, LSU, or other outside forces such as ESPN) to have complete "Egg on their Face".

can LSU find a coach that is willing to commit for a long term?

Obviously not, and my post wasn't meant to distinguish UM as not being an attractive school for any head coach to consider.....more of a "current circumstances assessment"....LSU could very well find themselves setting up for the same scenario in the near future, especially if Miles does ultimately leave LSU...which I think he will when he feels he's fulfilled his obligations to LSU.
My point was that it could be that they've realized they screwed up the whole process with Miles, and want to figure out how to fix it, and the only way to do that is to set the deal up for 1-2 years later.....

guy!! miles is staying @ LSU, his family - kids in couple years will be in hs and he will not move after two more years here

Well, I hope that is the case, but I don't know that "kids in high school" will dictate whether Miles stays or goes, though. It's not like he'd be moving to a foreign place that's not easy for his kids to get adjusted. I assume Miles and wife have family and friends in Ann Arbor already in place to make sure a transition is easy for all involved.
I hope Miles stays, but this could be the scenario that takes place.

If he coaches LSU in the BCSCG, he will already have fulfilled his promise to coach the team "next year".

I am going to give Les more credit than a trickery statement like that turning out to mean "only the NC game in January....everyone would know that's a bullshite evasion of the real truth....
what's possible is the scenario I've provided....coach another 1-2 years, provide strong input on the staff Michigan hires in the interim, then make the move to Michigan in 2009-10.....with staff in place.

Too many ifs...
I doubt any coach would come in knowing they were a short timer. What if they catch lightning in a bottle and rattle off a Big-10 and NC during their temporary tenure.
