I think Saban will be highly successful at Bama if he stays. But again, what's making folks speculate about Saban to LSU (and ostensibly why Saban is rumored to be "interested"...if this is indeed true) is because he could arguably "win now" at LSU.

This is not a dig, because you're one of the more reasonable and intelligent Bama posters I've encountered, and I don't want to seem like I'm slinging mud, but LSU also offers an easier fanbase and administration for a head coach to deal with than Bama does. Add Saban's previous success here, and the fact that he's a very big part of that success, and you can see why this talk is so prevalent.

I hope he stays at Alabama. I think his reputation would take an irrecoverable hit if he jumped ship. You're also dead-on about the recruits he'll be bringing in over the next few years. Unlike many Tiger fans, I want Alabama to be good. It makes the West better and the conference better.

So here's to you keeping your coach, us finding a great one ourselves, and both of their teams slugging it out next year in Baton Rouge!

these guys forget about Rohan Davey, Josh Reed, etc etc

No we didn't forget about them. How do they compare with JR, Bowe, Davis, Doucet, Steltz, Hester, Dorsey, Highsmith, Landry, and Chevis Jackson?
That is some of the talent that Saban left vs what he inherited.

another point about Nick and LSU - Nick has a proprietary interest in LSU. You can hear it - the program belongs to him in certain ways. When he came, Chancellor Emmert gave him everything he wanted - new practice facilities, tutoring programs for players, living quarters, etc. Nick did build the program up here and he feels it is still his. This feeling will dissipate with time.

It's still strong right now.
BTW, the only reason I think there is a good chance he is coming - this story is so bizarre it almost has to be true.

College football will be abuzz 50 years from now with that story.

i can see nick crying at the press conference making the announcement. Yes - nick saban shedding tears about coming home.
