I'm hearing Patterson and Leavitt as legitimate candidates right now.
Word is, they're probably going to consult Bill Snyder and use his input as a starting point for the job. A booster called into the radio show and sounded like the next guy they get will be a part of the K-State family.
Leavitt transformed the KSU defense in the early 90's from being completely irrelevant into a dominant force within the Big 8.
Patterson is a former Wildcat player, of course, and naturally, this appears to be the most likely candidate for the job.

usf to ksu is a backwards move at this point IMO.

I agree. I think it's wishful thinking on behalf of K-State affiliates if they think they're going to persuade JL to leave talent-rich Florida in the midst of a very good tenure at USF.

I have this weird feeling that Bill Snyder is going to come back and coach for one season.
The President of the University, and the AD are on the way out. Both are leaving at the end of 2009. This would be a way of giving power to the new school President to hire his AD and the AD to hire his coach.
No matter who it is, Snyder is going to have some input. He's a god in Manhattan. It's going to be hard to get a coach with the changes going on in the hierarchy.
If they do hire a coach, not Snyder, it will be someone with K-State ties. That's the number one complaint on Prince. Most likely Patterson, maybe Venables. Idealy they would love to have Leavitt, but he's not leaving USF.
Just my two cents.

It's merely conjecture at this point, but people are insinuating this was not a decision from within the school administration or athletic department, and that the donors pretty much put their foot down and wanted him out.
I heard this just yesterday. I know a guy (I know sounds like I should be on the rant), but he said not to be suprised if it happened in the coming weeks.
I figured at season's end.

Kansas State was one of the most schizophrenic teams I've ever seen.
They beat Texas back to back in Prince's first two years, absolutely schooling them in 2007. They badly beat Colorado and then just imploded, losing unbelievably to Iowa State and 73-31 to a horrible Nebraska team.
Never figured them out.

I thought it was at the end of the school year in May that the AD was leaving.
I think you and I both share similar opinions regarding this matter. There's no way Leavitt is going to leave USF. Not when he was the one who literally built the program from the ground up in 1996, and since then has gone from 1-AA newbie to legitimate Big East contender and nationally recognized program.
The man has turned down offers from Alabama twice, K-State, and Miami to stay at USF. That's the kind of coach we could use at LSU. Someone that is going to devote himself to the program and not even bat an eye at another school's offer.

You may be right. I got my information second hand. The way I was told was "year end 2009" that very well could've been academic year.

Maybe so. My source was the call-in show, so it's all hearsay either way.
I'll try to find out some more this weekend. I've got a couple of friends who follow KSU athletics pretty closely.
