He has interest. Frustrated with the OSU administration and his mentor Chip Kelly is in his ear that maybe it’s time for him to make a clean break and start fresh. Build his own program and get out from Urban’s shadow and influences that are still lingering around the program.

I don’t like to speak in absolutes, but I just can’t imagine it could possibly be so bad there for him to leave for any other college in the country. In a vacuum, the OSU and LSU jobs are close, but right now, it would be a pretty big step down. It’s Bama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia then a pretty nice gap between the momentum of those 4 programs currently and the next tier of LSU and Oklahoma, with maybe Florida, Oregon, Penn State, and A&M either at the bottom of that 2nd tier or top of the 3rd, depending on how you want to divvy them up.
Now, it probably wouldn’t take long for the right coach to add LSU as the 5th school in that top tier, but it’s no guarantee with the brutality that is the SECW schedule + Florida every year. But it feels like it would take some sort of scandalous catastrophe to knock OSU down. I know they’ve “only” won 2 NCs (it’s ridiculous how much Saban has warped the perception of how easy those are to get—they ain’t), but they’ve been rolling for like 20 years straight. Winning breeds winning, which is why it’d be really hard to frick up. So why leave that at all? If it’s to get out of Tressel’s and Urban’s shadows to get more credit for his success, then LSU seems like the last place he’d want to go:
1) there’s not much difference between being the 3rd straight HC to win an NC (not counting Fickell’s 1-year last minute interim season) and the 4th straight at LSU,
2) it certainly looks right now like being that 3rd guy at OSU is gonna be easier and faster than that 4th guy at LSU
3) How much credit would he actually get by winning at LSU? A lot of our fans think it’s such a good job because it’s so easy to win NCs here that the last 2 guys did it despite being dumb arse buffoons. Hell, Saban’s shadow is still lingering here 17 years later—he’s still getting credit for the ‘19 championship for Christ’s sakes—and even though he left here 10 years before Urban left OSU, I’d argue Saban’s is still longer (and so is his shadow) and will be harder to get out of than Urban’s.
4) And God forbid he didn’t win an NC here in the 1st 5 years or so. Fairly or not, he’d be trashed and probably run out of town. Saban did it in year 4 after 45 years without one, and the next 2 guys both won it in year 3. And they were retarded grass eaters and shrimp boat captains. How bad must Day—or whoever actually winds up taking the job—suck if they can’t even win it by year 5?
So, win a championship here and get very little credit—you’re just 1 of the last 4 who did the exact same thing. Or go 9-3/10-2/11-1 every year, but NOT win an NC, and you suck harder than the grass eater and the Cookie Monster. I just don’t see how that makes sense to leave the perfect setup he’s got rolling right now for. Now, if he wants to get out of Urban’s shadow and get the credit he deserves, it’s gonna have to be somewhere that has the resources to do win championships, but for whatever reason hasn’t in a while.
And do we even know if he is any good? As a HC, anyway? Urban had that program fricking rolling when he slid right into it. All he has had to do is keep it between the lines and not frick something up bigly. He may be great and able to win anywhere, but we can’t really know it yet because it would have taken somebody colossally bad to have derailed that train so quickly.

And it's only just started. Thanksgiving should be off the hook if nobody has been named by then.

Now there’s a Coach Johnson/Kim Mulkey-esque name that’s not being mentioned but would be a big splash

Can’t believe everyone is dismissing the possibility of hiring Day.
Day is 1a and Riley is 1b. 12 year contract on table. Going to rock the football world
Please bookmark
And people really think Woody is going to hire a coach from the Sunbelt? LMFAO
