So, let's take a quick look at an Executive Summary of the 2008 Football Season - mainly to shut the negatigers up :

January 2008 - win MNC (not too bad)

January 2008 - decide to keep (or try to keep) winning defense in place (probably a decent decision back then, given its success under Pelini)

Pre-Season - kick off Perriloux (the right move)

During Season - Start 3 inexperienced freshman at QB and struggle on offense a bit (who would have thought that????)

During Season - Realize Defense sucks arse and that Pelini was not as easily replaceable as thought with his 2 protege's

Post Season - Still make a bowl that we would have killed for earlier this decade

Post Season - Revamp entire defense with what is universally lauded as "friggin' awesome" coaching changes

Really just not sure how Les could have played it any better given the situations he encountered. I think people knock him because of the way he comes across as a gambler, but damn, what a year - and for us to be coming out of it looking the way we are looking now is just Awesome!

Very easily could've solved lots of problems this season by realizing that you can't train on the job as a DC at a program of LSU's level. It was a huge risk that LSU couldn't afford to take, but he took it anyhow for whatever reason.

In the end LSU suffered with this season, and will move on. In reality though, while its nice to get Chavis and O (if he ends up coming), no one knows how that will work out.
