I just cannot fathom making the active decision to walk away from a team on the cusp of the playoff.

Which is why he is most likely staying at Ole Miss.

That really is the ultimate question in this whole deal. How much is this season worth compared to what the future might hold?

Crazy what kind of situation this fricked up NCAA schedule is forcing.
Schedule makes no difference. It wouldn't be any better if the playoffs started the week after the championship games. It's going to be a distraction until the end

The fix is the NFL approach of not allowing any playoff coaches to accept new jobs until their seasons end

That would help too, but I’m looking at it more from the lens of it being such a rush with the early signing period and portal entry window both happening before playoffs are over. Seems like it would be a better idea to have all of these things happen with a new league year reset in late January.

You don't throw that away for the possibility of what the future might bring. His team has a shot to make a run this year. Maybe if the timing was different he'd consider another job, but I'll be shocked if he leaves. Not to mention the fact that he can win 9-10 games at Ole Miss for the rest of his career and they'll build him a statue. Job security. Whole different ball game at a place like LSU.
