Have any one of you ever experienced this situation personally? I have. Applying for a coaching job several times, I was on the other side of the fence and was asked several times if I were white or black. This certain school or schools were under COURT ORDER to hire a black coach.........felt real strange being told that.......

Apparently somebody cares, there are only about 6 black coaches in 116 colleges.

Actually there are 119 universities.

mabye theres not many black coaches in college b/c they arent smart enought or just cant or dont wantt to take the pressure

I mean, REALLY. Do you honestly believe it may due to their lack of knowledge? Uh, I'm quite sure it is A LOT HARDER to coach in the NFL. In college if you don't bring in talent, you simply won't win. Period! Ask the head man at Notre Dame. He has a wealth of football knowledge and can't tin shyt! At this level talent is a higher priority than x's and o's. Coaches do a lot to sell a kid on 1 particular school but MOSTLY the PROGRAM SELLS ITSELF. You think kids go to UF b-cuz of Meyers, its because that's mostly where they wanted to go for as long as they can remember. Coaches just continually show the recruits that they are interested and it makes the recruits feel a part of something. These kids are young and like to have their egos stroked like any young impressionable 18 yr old athlete. Playing time and HOW SOON they will get that playing time is also a huge factor.

I don't think that a school should be required to interview a coach based on race, especially if he does not have a realistic chance at the job. But I think WE ALL KNOW WHY it is required. We are adults and we live in the real world, act accordingly.
Black athletes are DEFINITELY "smart enough" to play at this level, so it is apparent that there are black coaches smart enough to coach at this level. Some of these coaches are the same ones that played at this level.

Someone please KILL this thread before it becomes too ridiculous!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

As long as our Gov. keeps giving handouts and catering to who wines the most, for votes non the less, this will never end. I don't hear the Jews cring eeryoTher day about inequality. And I am positive they lost millions more than the few hundred thousand Africans that were captured BY THEIR OWN PEOPLE....

don corleone ... i couldnt agree with you more about the "token" interview ... i dont understand why anyone would want to take a job where they didnt feel like they were REALLY the guy that was wanted. i suppose you could use that for motivation, i dont know, i wouldnt be comforatable with that. having said that though, it seems to be pretty obvious that schools, most schools would rather have one of their own as the head coach and i just think that texas a&m saw a guy that used to coach there, was very qualified (if not overly qualified) and it was also that coaches wish to be at the school for some time and the aggies jumped on him before someone else did. i dont think you can blame them in that case.

The only color that matters is GREEN. If you can win games and make money for the school, you are the right hire. Color won't matter a bit if you can win.

Like it or not, every minority candidate that applies for jobs now will be compared to other minority predecessors. Universities will look at the successes and failures of guys like Ty Willingham, Sly Croom, Karl Dorrell, etc. when making their decisions.

Fortunately for minorities, Tony Dungy was able to lead the Colts to a Super Bowl win. While winning may not have boosted their cause, losing would have certainly set minority coaches back.

I've always thought that a black coach would be a bit of an asset since so many of our players are black. It could help with recruiting.

I doubt very many 4 or 5 star players are going to a school because of the coaches color. They are going to a school that they either grew up loving or to a school that they think will give them the best chance to play early and best prepare them for the next level. You don't see alot of 5 star players lining up to go to Miss. State because Croom's black. I'm not knocking Croom, I'm one of the few here who wish LSU would go after Croom if Miles leaves. I think he is a great coach and if he was at a school were he could get some decent recruits, he would be hard to beat. I know LSU won't find a coach with more class than Croom has.

I don't remember any Hispanic or Asian coaches getting interviewed either.

There are more hispanics in this country now than blacks. They are the majority minority.

this is how it works... in many cases the are no formal interviews. If you do no formal interviews and you can offer a job to anyone you want.
