Question about a new DC

To you think it is better to hire someone who has a long track record in the SEC or someone who comes from outside of the conference? In the first scenerio the coach knows the SEC but also the opponents know him very well and have seen his defenses for year. On the other hand if he comes from outside the conference the coach is not use to dealing with the intensity of having to be strong defensively to win in the conference but at the same time other schools are not use to playing against him every year. Don't know that I have a preference one way or the other. Pelini was successful as is Saban defensively etc etc.

ok so you're asking Walker or Chavis.
I choose Walker. I feel he is more hungry to excel because he wants to be a head coach. I think Chavis is overrated by UT fans and has many mediocre years.
regardless, both would be an upgrade.

It is definitely to very different choices. I have always found it curious about UT recruiting because I have looked at their roster and their recruiting and they seem to go out of state for large % of their talent. I know they have had some good defenses but I wonder if Fulmer is/was one of those coaches that was so loyal to his staff that it ultimately cost him his own job.

I agree and don't like his soft coverage on third downs. Also think the SEC knows all about him and he's behind the learing curve figuring out the new SEC coaches. If Florida had Zook and Bama had Shula I'd love to have Chavis at DC.

Agree here as well.

Quit worrying yourselves, it's going to be Chavis.

Well he better figure out how to stop a spread offense. Because he hasn't shown it yet from everything I can tell.

As a black coach which would you take, HC at NMSU or DC at LSU. The money is probably the same.
