Q&A on Chavis

That is interesting article. Especially the part where he said one of his greatest attributes was consistency, something I was critical of on him. I've watched them over the years and they didn't seem consistent to me. But seeing as that guy is a Vol fan, sure he knows more about Chavis than me.

It was said that Chris Leak running the spread was like watching Arnold Schwarzenegger run a 5K in high heels. UF still won those games if I remember correctly. And UT's not so bad loss this year was pre-LSU v. UF when UF hit their stride and were struggling to find a running game.

Doesn't appear to be handeling the spread well at all. (although no one else is stopping it right now either.) The bigger concern is all the fresh blood in the SEC that he has to deal with now in Saban, Petino, Nutt, Whoever AU hires. Plus, SOS always scores 24+ on him at South Carolina.

This is my biggest problem. Inability to make half time adjustments kill so many teams and I think it's one of the marks of a great coach as to how they make these adjustments.




I know he was a solid DC at one time, but he hasn't been lately, he hasn't brought in the talent they once did with Manning/Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry and hasn't handled the change in the SEC very well from what we've seen. I think his inability to make half time adjustments and soft coverages will make more people hate him than Tepper.

Ok, so what makes you say Walker would be the safer hire? He's much less experienced. He doesn't have nearly the credentials as Chavis.

If you're going to go with a "safe" pick, then Chavis is the answer. If you want to take a risk and maybe possibly get a bigger upside, then possibly you go with Walker.

No way can Walker be perceived as a "safer" pick.

it amazes me. We have a chance to get the DEF COOR from tennessee! every other d coor we have ever got was a up and coming. Chavis is proven and well respected. He has been there for 18 years? i mean he must be terrible.

I am on the chavis bandwaggon. I actually HOPE he wants to come here.

Being a longterm DC doesn't necessarily mean you don't bring energy or aren't passionate about putting the best product on the field (as opposed to just getting by to draw a paycheck). Besides Chavis, look at guys like Mickey Andrews, Dick LeBeau, Monte Kiffin. Those guys tend to have young energetic assts under them though.

Thats EXACTLY right!!! How many times have halftime adjustments saved our team? Just this year are last, how many times was our offense, but specifically our defense, getting manhandled only to come out after halftime with a better gameplan and a fire lit under their a$$.

We NEED a coach who can make good halftime adjustments. If he cannot or is "too stubborn", that is a sign that he is either a poor coach or a complete dumbass
