It is very possible that if LSU wants the opportunity to take a swing at a specific candidate that the conventional wisdom saying they'll announce post A&M could be not happen.

Hypothetically, if LSU is after Franklin or Riley and either is in the playoff, you don't panic to have a couple weeks edge in recruiting at the expense of losing a coach you believe can be a decade plus leader of your program. Woodward probably is thinking this way and he is active in recruiting so he can mitigate some and attempt to get players to hold off on signing. LSU probably will lose out on some guys as a result, but the hire is way more important.

As far as the PR of it, nothing you can really do about it other than the plausible explanation that LSU is also interested in talking to NFL people since the season there ends around the playoffs as well. Hopefully LSU gets the best of both worlds and the no. 1 candidate just misses the playoffs, but it's something to be prepared for. Can we handle it?

Well if we miss out on the first signing period because Saban is coming then that’s fine. Austin just needs to stay in touch with everybody and tell them to either sign because we’re getting the best or wait and sign in Feb

Saban didn't sign with Alabama until January 1. I wonder if they regret losing a month.

But hypothetically, what would we rater...hiring Lincoln Riley in early January after UGA blasts OU in the playoff or panic hiring Mel Tucker on 12/1 so he is in place for early signing? Of course you'd have to have it 100% sure Lincoln would come at that point.
