now that Saban's off the table you can get a coach that could be there for 15+ years and I think Charlie Strong is the next big thing

this... get someone young to start a dynasty - strong =

I mean, after a week of off the wall internet theories non of which panned out, the Saban angle should well and truly be put to bed after his interview

he's staying at this point

first domino has fallen

the job wasn't open yesterday

and I wouldn't put it past saban to agree to terms to re-sign with bama to make everyone leave him alone

Why do you care? Thought the Saban extension was in the bag?

I'm not convinced by some interview. I'm convinced after getting a look at how much of a zoo that Texas situation is these days.

And Saban to texas by the end of next week after they run interference with a couple of other candidates and make him the 10/10 mill offer.

Him signing the Bama extension yesterday was brilliant. Secures the $7 mill and clears the way for Mack to resign on his own terms.

The chaos from the leak is dealt with.

Saban-to-Texas is still in play, imo.

you know this sounds pretty vicious

you know, I don't know man. a lot of things changed apparently from yesterday morning to now.

my source was 100% confident that this was a done deal... guess they weren't expecting mack to drag his feet like he did.

person that told me all this financial stuff told me a while back and I didn't really believe it. but then I saw all the rouzan and perkins rowe tommy spinoza stuff so...

the whole deal of a UT booster paying off the perkins rowe debt... what does it mean? dude, I have no clue

but my source was confident. could this whole deal have blown up last night?

looks like it, but again, i'm not close to the situation, as it appears to be very fluid.

fact is UT coaching spot is open.

In a statement issued by LSU on Wednesday, Saban described the talks as "a preliminary conversation with the Dolphins to exchange ideas about their head coaching position."

"No decisions were made in this meeting, and they will continue their search for a coach."

LSU (9-2) meets Iowa (9-2) on Jan. 1 in the Capital One Bowl at Orlando, Fla.

AROUND THE NFL
December 25, 2004|From Associated Press

Miami Dolphin owner Wayne Huizenga flew to Baton Rouge, La., on Friday, then returned to South Florida nine hours later without Nick Saban.

But the Louisiana State coach might yet join the Dolphins.

Still weighing an offer the Dolphins made Wednesday, Saban met with Huizenga and team President Eddie Jones, then huddled with LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman, then said he needed more time.

"In the next 24 to 48 hours we'll make a decision," Saban said in a statement released by LSU. "We certainly appreciate everyone's support, patience and understanding during this very difficult process."

Shortly before Huizenga departed Baton Rouge, Saban briefly boarded the plane, then got in his car and drove away. Saban and the Tigers are scheduled to fly today to Orlando, Fla., for their Jan. 1 bowl game against Iowa.

The coach's hesitancy in making the leap to the NFL is nothing new. He previously turned down overtures from at least five NFL teams, including Atlanta and Chicago a year ago.

It was unclear whether money was part of the negotiations. Saban is the highest-paid coach in college football and in the first year of an $18.45-million, seven-year deal, while the Dolphins' offer is believed to exceed $4 million a year.
