Oklahoma is expected to hire Jacksonville State’s Zac Alley as its new defensive coordinator, sources tell @247sports . The 29-year old Alley helped Jacksonville State win nine games and rank 33rd nationally in scoring defense in its first season at the FBS level. He previously worked under Brent Venables at Clemson.

This guy can go out to the bars with the players and not look out of place.

That’s a good hire for OU. JSU’s defense has been pretty solid, and he’s already familiar with Venables

Make no mistake it’s venables defense. Much like saban. Just needs someone to agree with it to have a headset on.

No shot he’ll be anything but a pawn for venables. Hiring a 29 year old as the DC for a P5 school let alone SEC is bold. Florida’s dc is around the same age too….

Brent was 28 when Bob Stoops hired him. Won title his 2nd year and shut FSU offense down (Weinke, the Heisman winner).

He has cloned BV systems so he can actually run it here and allow BV to manage overall team yet help out when he has time in practices.

And he’ll relate to recruits. I like the hire and he’ll do more than Roof did for sure.

Kirby - 33 at Alabama, no DC experience other than Valdosta.

Lanning, Schuman… point being: it’s Venables defense. He’s training an up and comer that he trusts and has natural talent. It’s a good way to do it.

I thought so too. With limited talent.

CBV has several NCs under his belt as a DC. I think he can afford to train up someone in his liking.

Same with CKS.
