Names I'm hearing are Jim Tressel, Scott Frost, Jim McElwain, Mark Richt

I was just about to mention that Pelini's tenure at NU looks a lot like Richt's. Except that Richt has enough talent in his own state to win a national title while all the talent in Nebraska and the bordering states combined could not win a Big Ten West title. Richt would be such an awful hire.

Cool. How many Big 10 titles, Rose Bowls, and No. 3 finishes has Nebraska had in the last 7 years?
Pelini won his division 4 of the 7 years at Nebraska and had finished in the top 25 every year since 2009.

Wisconsin has not finished in the top 3 in the past 7 years and were unranked twice. Likewise, Dantonio at MSU has finished the season unranked 3 times and only finished in the top 3 once (last year.)

Nebraska is in the middle of no where. They will never win big due to that, the state is terrible with no recruiting talent the bordering states are just as bad.

Wisconsin = Three Big 10 titles and three Rose Bowl appearances
Michigan State = No. 3 finish, Rose Bowl win, and legit national title contenders

Nebraska has done none of that. Who cares about finishing No. 25?

I do agree with some that he wasn't fired because of his record this season. He may have been fired because of his refusal to fire his assistants, who needed to go, and the AD had no choice but to fire Bo.

Zero conference titles, zero BCS bowls. 'Nuff said.

Ask all of those recruits that choose to go to Oregon because they have cool jerseys and state-of-the-art facilities.

Alabama and it neighboring states are rich with highschool talent. Nebraska has nothing. They would need superman as far as a recruiter is concerned and then I don't think that'd be enough.

yet some how for several decades they were able to recruit top players. Nebraska won by owning Nebraska/Missouri/Kansas, cherry picking California and Kansas JUCO, and some big time national recruits

I have no doubt that's exactly what happened. Papuchis was in way over his head, and I wouldn't hire Barney Cotton to be an assistant on my HS coaching staff.

I agree with this. But also think its pathetic how some would choose where to play based on how cool the unis are.

The only thing Alabama and Nebraska have in common is we are traditional powers with delusional fans who have suffered through an extended period of mediocrity. Alabama is surrounded by Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia. Nebraska has no in state talent and is surrounded by Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado. It's an absolute wasteland for talent. For them to contend for national titles they will have to recruit 90 percent of their talent from a 10-20 hour drive away.

Nebraska was great when only 10 or so programs consistently got their games on tv. Now every game is on tv and there is no reason to leave home.

You don't think Nebraska has state-of-the-art facilities?

And when was the last time Oregon had a top 10 recruiting class?

Meanwhile, teams from talentless states like Oklahoma, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Michigan are there routinely.

That's why I think Nebraska needs an established big name coach who is a proven recruiter, such as Tressel or Richt. I don't think these up-and-comers will be able to lure talent to Lincoln. They've done a good job recruiting Louisiana, Texas, and Ohio in recent years, but that was mainly due to Pelini's ties.

Michigan has Ohio, Pennsylvania and in state recruits. Notre Dame can push the education and also has great access to Ohio and other states in Catholic regions where there are tons of ND fans. Oregon has California and the coolness of being a Nike factory. Lincoln and NU offer literally nothing to a California, Florida, Ohio or Texas recruit that in state schools can't offer.
