I tend to think Meyer has been emphatic enough that he's not going to Notre Dame, but it's been said quite frequently that ND should at least make an inquiry and "make Meyer say no".

Is there any indication that this has happened, or did they by all accounts go directly to more "realistic" candidates?

I'll say this: they sure don't seem to be in any hurry to lock up Brian Kelly.

Kelly is a hotter name on message boards than he is at ND. He isn't the first choice, fall back if anything.

Meyer's agent wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't put out feelers to ND, whether Meyer is interested or not. I guarantee there has been some contact.

Not saying he would leave, but if you are ND you have to ask if he wants to come to his 'dream job' for $6 mil a year.

ETA: Is Sexton Meyer's agent? If so, then you know he has been in touch with ND since they lost to Navy.

Sexton is the sleazy Chuck Norris of college football.

Urban Meyer will take the gig if Saban doesn't. Saban is the first choice but I bet He stays in Bama.

Why do people keep claiming it is his dream job. If it was, he would already be signed.

He has 2 NCs at Florida and he was 1 game away from another MNC Champ game.

He is at his dream job. A place that pays him a helluva lot of money where he can win and without those pesky academic restrictions.

Once again, if it is his supposed "Dream Job" why hasn't he signed on the contract to coach there?

75 mil for 10 years would be hard to refuse and the challenge of bringing an even more traditional team like the Irish back would be to. We'll see.

Orlando Sentinel, December 12, 2008
Coach Urban Meyer called the Fighting Irish "still my dream job; that hasn't changed" on a South Florida radio show on Wednesday.

That's why.

I will say this....the longer ND drags it feet-the more likely someone big is about to lose their coach. If Kelly is who they really want-this would had been done already.

If that is true then why hasn't he signed on the dotted line? Not saying he did not say it, but if he did then why isn't Notre Dame making a full court press on him?

If I was a Notre Dame fan, I would not be happy with an Edsal or a Kelly.

Some of the deluded fans on their forum think That Kelly is coming on as coach and Edsal is quitting a HC job to be the DC at Notre Dame.

I just don't think the big dogs want to deal with their academic restrictions.

From the article:

quote:

It's just that time in my life -- to be the head football coach of Notre Dame, you're on a plane recruiting because you recruit San Diego as hard as you recruit New York as hard as you recruit Florida, Texas, Ohio," Meyer said on the radio. "It's a national recruiting base. I recruited there for six years, and I spent every night in a hotel in an airport. I'm going to be a good father first."

I dont think that type of perspective changes in a year.

Remember what everyone kept saying when Saban was at the Dolphins?

The longer Alabama goes without hiring a coach, the more likely it will be Saban, regardless of what he's saying to the media.

ETA - Not saying Saban will go to ND, but ND appears to be holding out. Doesn't appear that Kelly is their first choice. He sounds like Plan B or C at this point on ND's agenda.
