I can't believe more people aren't pushing Butch Davis.

He would get my vote over Rodriguez and most of the other names I'm hearing.
He rebuilt the Hurricanes into a serious power. He has been to the NFL and will not go back. He did the right thing after he left the NFL by taking a year off.
Is a good recruiter.
Is well respected unlike or boy over in Gumpville.
I don't see any reason we can't get him from North Carolina.

All of the NFL names I'm hearing would mean we would have to wait until Christmas or later to get a coach and that would make this recruiting year a waste. I would take one bad year in recruiting to get a can't miss coach, but do you think Gruden or Del Rio are can't miss coaches? Do they even know how to recruit? All they have known is the NFL.

If he has any integrity, he's not gonna bail after only one year. I think he can win big there in time.

I think they'd both do well, but don't think there's any chance they're leaving their current gigs.

Why does leaving for a better situation mean you have no integrity? Better yet why is leaving after 5 years mean you have more integrity that if you leave after one?

I'm in a position right now with my career that I would leave in a heart beat if a much better oportunity came along. Most everyone would do the same. Why is that a lack of integrity?

Maybe we can sticky a thread on why Butch Davis is a terrible choice based on his own past history.

What's to love about a guy who straight up quit on his team in Cleveland? A guy who threw his weight around to get total control, pushed out others (like GM Dwight Clark), then bolted when there was nobody else left to blame for the team's shortcomings.

I also don't know how asking back into the college game, then leaving a damn respectable BCS conference school *after 1 year* is "doing the right thing".

The man openly claimed he could not handle "the stress" in Cleveland. How on earth is such a guy going to handle LSU?

What do the locals think of Chizik? I've heard nothing but good stuff about him.

Sorry but Leach sucks. He would be so unbelievably unsuccessful in the SEC. Plays no defense and has no running game. Can't win on the road, can't keep a lead has no clock managment. He is where he should be.

I say we get a guy with Louisiana ties. That's right...

Coach Klein

Sure, you might say he only won because he had a freak of a player. Remember though, he was an X's and O's genius who had his holy grail of a playbook stolen early in his career.

Hawthorne would have NO chance at getting that one right. He is going to struggle enough with Toliver and Tolliver.....

what locals? I was in Austin the year he was there, and he won me over. Ice Cold is pissing me off not adding him to the list. You've updated at least twice since I mentioned him IC, what the frick.

All things considered, I'm not sure LSU is a better situation for Butch Davis. It's a more relaxed environment, in a worse conference, he's already proved he can recruit there, and I'd have to believe the quality of life is better there than Baton Rouge. Plus, they gave him a chance after his miserable failure in Cleveland and his relative obscurity the last few years. I for one, think he's overrated anyway. I've mentioned this before, but of the last 5 Miami head coaches, he had the lowest winning % and was the only one to not win a national championship.

Well, convince me that LSU is a better opportunity. Perhaps building a program and making your own legacy at a school would be more fulfilling than maintaining one, and never getting the respect of your predecessor(s).

I'm going to realistic. The list is short:

Spurrier - may already be done. He initiated contact through intermediaries as early as last summer. Has the best connection of all and that's Lombardi, who will make the decision.

Rodriguez - has friends from the area who are sure he would accept. Has stated this is the job he wants privately.

Saban - has more influential friends in the LSU community than most of you think. Would take a pay cut to come to LSU.

Petrino - Outside shot.

It will be one of these!!!!!

$4 million dollar buyout is why he wont be the next coach.
