but in corporate America people are fired all the time for talking to the competition.

But they aren't necessarily fired for refering other people to places that they USED to work, or for giving references to an old employer for people that they USED to work with! You can talk to employers or people from your past without it being "espionage"

If he thought he was being super secret why come out an explain what his intentions are in regard to MI?

Well if this was not a JOB, then your analogy possibly would still suck.

For the analogy to work, you would need to be getting paid 2.8 million to be married to your wife. Just sayin......

Other than that solid post.

My entire point of this thread was that all of this BS today could have been avoided if Les would have simply not had contact with UM until after they had a new coach.

I thought the whole point of the conversation was to HELP THEM FIND a new coach. If he waits until after they find one to talk to them about it then what good does that do. Besides, it's not like he was taking time away from practice.

Also, not sure that he was upset about the story being reported that he talked to Michigan, but probably more about WHAT was being reported. Make sure the facts are right before reporting the story.

specs, what the hell is your problem. how come you and others in the fanbase seem to think that because miles talked to officials from michigan in a call intiated by michigan that miles is double crossing lsu. my god, you people are so nearsighted that if miles came out and testified under oath that his allegiance was to lsu you would somehow twist it around and draw a conclusion that he was lying. specs, i know you love lsu and deem this as a negative situation concerning our football team, but to imply that miles is a nuisance to our chances at winning the nc is absolutely absurb and just plain rantarded.

Really, and I think that Glenn Dorsey should be "disciplined" for running around the country accepting awards and such, when he should be in some sort of detention center getting ready for the NC game that's three weeks away!

On this we agree adam32.

Let me clear a few other things up. I do not hate Les Miles or anyone else for that matter. I do not know him personally, but have only heard good things about him. I have been critical of many of his coaching decisions.

I never thought he would take the SEC title. I was wrong; he has it.

Also, I don't care if he talks to UM. I don't care if he leaves for UM after we win the national title. But, we do not need a Miles to UM story everyday between now and the title game.

If Miles could talk to UM privately and it not get out then no harm would be done. But obviously everytime there is contact some one, most likely from UM, leaks it.

I do not beleive Miles is going anywhere, which further convinces me that he should just not talk to UM. If he had not talked to them on Friday, this would not have been a story today.

His focus should be on the Title game. Why is he having a conversation w/ UM? Why? There nothing positive to come out of it whatsoever, unless he truly wants to go there.

I've been behind Les through it all here. I still don't really care if he stays or goes.

I've got a BIG problem with him taking a raise less than a week ago and talking to Michigan about ANYTHING, alum or not. WTF are we paying him the increase for...to help Michigan find a new coach...or concentrate on LSU winning a Nat'l Champ game? He needs to quit talking to anyone other than his friggin team and new coach hires if he truly wants to stay. Bertman needs to step up and put a stop to this.

I just wish that the media demons would let this thing go!

Michigan has a job opening. Miles has a Michigan clause in his contract. Miles continues to talk with Michigan officials.
Do you really think the media is going to ignore this?
Perhaps if Miles quits talking with Michigan, the "media demons" would let it go.

Yeah-
33 and 6 (highest winning percentage in LSU history with 25+ games)
Three 11 win seasons...
2 solid bowl victories
An SEC Championship...
Playing for a National Championship
Final National Rankings of 5th, 3rd, and (hopefully 1st)....

What's not to hate?

What raise did he get. It is the same ole COntract. He got a increase per his contract for winning the SEC game. Les Miles does have a life outside LSU. WHo knows he might even like to Duck hunt and might take time doing that. It was a courtesy call from the President of a important University in this Nation. You take the call. Big deal. It is a Friday night

Yeah, that's why he called a press conference a few hours before the fricking SEC Championship Game, because no one was distracted.

Good Grief it appears to be a courtsey call on a Friday Night. Does Les have permission to go Christmas shopping or will that detract from the NC game too

Comparing talking with Michigan to Christmas shopping in regards to distraction is beyond ignorant.

To have these conversations w/ the UM pres and ad, then when reported act like your offended and there was nothing discussed except coaching recommendations is freaking ridiculous.

Specs1,

I get your point and agree with it 100%.

There is absolutely no good, for LSU at least, for any conversation with the UM folks.

I hope all the posters on here stating that Miles' actions are harmless and he was just helping his old school in their search for a coach really don't believe that.

I don't know what the conversation was about, and I really don't care (however, only a moron would think he was helping in their coaching search. Hell, Carr is on the committee and I seriously doubt that Carr, or the administration, needs, or would seek, Miles' insight on the this matter).
If Miles, or anyone on this board, doesn't realize the turmoil that any contact with UM presents at this time and the jet fuel on the fire that is at risk, then we are in serious trouble.

To put it in real simple terms: If your boss just gave you a raise and is about to make you the 3rd highest paid person in the world in your profession, would he not be pissed if he found out that the next day you had conversations with a competitor?
We all know the answer and I don't think he'd give a rat's arse what the topic of the conversation was.

His pay was increased- that's a raise, and it was substantial. He's LSU's coach and they pay his salary, and he's not Michigan's consultant for their program. Why not just give Michigan your playbook too while you're at it Les. He needs to stay out of their business, unless he wants them to pay him. It's business, not friendship. Or is it business? He needs to stay away from Michigan business if he truly wants to stay at LSU and do the job LSU pays him for.

Maybe we should require him to raise his hand and ask Bertman for permission to go to the bathroom while we're at it.

I used to think that "all schools" had some of "these types" of fans...
I'm beginning to think LSU has more than it's fair share....UNFORTUNATELY!

Yeah, the University of Michigan has no connections. They can't hire a coach without consulting with Les Miles first.
