Or like most of us when our employers try to counter offer. He looks them in the eye and asks if you weren't willing to pay this before when I asked why are you willing to pay it now and he moves on.
At this point the relationship is damaged and if things go south it won't be the same.

Correct. I succinctly remember, during his post game interview, him saying that’s a good team we just beat right there.
