I agree with you that he had been given a chance above others possibly more qualified. I do think that he has earned the chance to sink or swim.
We all get better with age. I'm glad no one holds me accountable for the dumb things I did over 10 years ago. Does he deserve the same?

The issue is, if we don't make a great OC hire, and get someone who can develop QBs and run an offense, we are no better then we were with Miles
I get Miles needed to be fired, but we had a chance to go hire a coach that would only not get in the offenses way but actually elevate the offense
So it is disappointing to end up with a CEO.
We are still very much in Limbo as far as OC goes.
