At his age, if you can make that kind of money remaining in a program you are comfortable in and a conference you understand how to recruit and compete in, why the hell throw yourself into some unknown shitshow like head coach at Mississippi State having to compete in the SEC?
Yeah he made the right move. Cashing in at a low expectation program for the last 6-8 years of his career.

signed that thing riiiight before the Ohio State Game
For the “we’re paying Brian Kelly 10 million dollars!” crowd
That’s 9 million a year for 0 wins over ranked teams.
Exactly!
Often, it is not the original contract that gets programs in a big hole. It's the ridiculous extension early in the contract after any modicum of success. Agents leverage one good season by making AD's piss their pants.
Mel Tucker has a (relatively) reasonable contract at MSU. ONE good season and the AD gives him a 10 year $95M contract. Next year...they tank. So bad that MSU has to get a "sexual harassment coach" to pretend she was harassed by encouraging Tucker to jerk off on a phone call jus to get out of the shitty deal.
Jimbo's original contact was big. But over time, with inflation, it would have become a reasonable contract relative to the market. However, Jimbo has a decent year in 2020 (a complete anomaly of a season) and A&M freaks out by ripping up the original contract after on 3 years and given him an absurd extension. That forced them to have to hang on to Jimbo for another 3 years and STILL pay a huge buyout to make him go away.
If you are an AD, call his bluff. Say "go find someone else out there who will pay you $9M per for 8 years, then we can talk" If another school gives it to him, great. But the odds are this year is an aberration...not a sign of things to come. Read the market. What big jobs are likely to come open: Arkansas? West Virginia? Oklahoma St? Virginia Tech?
Do you want to know why coaching salaries are "through the roof"? It's because guys like this get massive raises for have one good season that likely is more so the result of favorable circumstances (avoiding the majority of the good conference opponents)

I’d take Cignetti over BK any day. One is an up and comer who keeps winning and one is an old bitch who hasn’t won anything.

The Rant ladies and gentlemen
"I have a strong opinion, and I'm right!!"....even though the basis for my opinion is completely wrong.
Cignetti is OLDER than Kelly (by 5 months) and has exactly (less) than one full season of HC experience at a major conf. school. Yet, he's an "up and comer" while Kelly, with two CFP appearances and a NC game appearance, "is and old bitch who hasn't won anything".
Take a lap! You've already made the worst post of the day

he’s definitely made Indiana better, but right now it looks like erving the 1 eyed man in the land of the blind. Indiana should be the shittiest team in a field of shitty teams and he has them
as the best team in a field
of shitty teams, but can he beat a good team?
We’ll find out this weekend.
