Do you work for LSU, Belowpar? I'm not questioning your story (I've thought it was Chavis for a while). I'm just merely curious.

(I realize that if you're a "leak" you can't out yourself. But I figured you've gotta be connected to the higher-ups somehow.)

I assumed that you were saying those would have been better than chavis I was just pointing out all of those have holes in them too, because you are so quick to point out chavis' downside. If you werent suggesting those people over chavis, then who would you rather?

wait, go back and read what i was replying to when you originally quoted me. Then you can come back and apologize.

All of these things happened 3 years ago, and 2 of them happened before he'd completed half of a an LSU season. I realize no one's expecting a grad student to run the multi-million=dollar corporation known as LSU football, but I assume a review of all of your decisions from 2005 will yield the stellar results you demand from Miles? All of these were serious errors in judgment, but no more than that. Contrast this with, say, Tepper or Bill Callahan, who simply have coaching methods that don't work in college football. There's a difference.

quote:

offered Rocky Duplesis, thought it better to run the ball with Justin Vincent than throw with JR and 3 stud NFL WRs against Auburn, took Scott out against Kentucky to protect Hester's feelings

This sounds an awful lot like "offered Karl Hankton, Tory Collins, Max Holmes and Jeffery Jack, thought it would be better to stay in press-man coverage against UGA even though David Greene was completing fade routes in his sleep that day, played Randall over Russell even though JR had way more talent and was clearly the future," etc. Do I even need to type the next sentence?

Miles had brain surgery

This doesn't do much to refute the notion that your hatred, and it is hatred, for Miles detracts from any credible criticism you might make about him and/or his coaching ability.

Belowpar, you have become a legend around here

How good do you feel about Coach O?

You think it gets done in the end?

A few week ago you reported that is was real close to being done on O? Now it's playing games?
Vol fans are still confident

Perhaps it's just the agents gogging it up at the moment?

My LSU friend spoke to Alleva on Saturday afternoon via Cell phone and alleva (knows Alleva from Duke) told him that the asst coaches are "secured" ..."rest easy", people will be happy..

Maybe "secured" means they are committed to coming but the contracts have to be finalized, or it may mean Miles has options in place, and all his options look good, just waiting on these coaches to decide?

Interesting none the less. I took my buddies email as, all asst. are locked in and that was Saturday

Thanks for posting!

I re read it and it is in the context of how those hires would have been better than chavis and you wouldn't have hated them just because they were hired by miles. As I showed in the first reply all of those had downsides too, before you hate the hire let chavis show what he can do at LSU.

there is no credible criticism of Miles, obviously. Any coach that can only lose 11 games in 4 years with top 3 talent each year is clearly infallable. I know see the error of my ways. Fear da hat!

I love the hire!

But I do feel strongly about Coach O

I think he is difference maker

LSU will continue to be DL U if we land Coach O

Is it your position that any number of injuries or young players completely excuses a DC from having a bunch of mediocre to shitty defenses and coming to Baton Rouge and putting on a purple hat will magically transfrom him into a great DC who actually tries to stop the oppositioin on 3rd and long?

It is my position that Chavis is a very good DC, almost certainly the best available DC LSU could have hired this year. Chavis is also the most likely to have excellent defenses at LSU, since he is by far the most proven of all of the legit candidates.

More important, it is my position that the injury and youth issues we've been "discussing" have had a negative effect on the total defense rankings at TN recently. They don't completely explain them, of course, but the aren't a non-factor, either.

The poor defensive numbers during the 3 years you cling to no more guarantee "mediocrity" than do the 2 recent years of lofty success. And this includes what I believe is a Top 10 finish this year.

But over 10 years of generally superb defensive play, all with Chavis at the helm, make Chavis having similar success at LSU far more probable than not. Without cherry-picking the stats, I don't see how another conclusion could be reached.

Maybe you should search my posts about Walker, Koenning, or Edwards or even Tenuta then.

I have neither the time nor the inclination. I will say, though, that assuming I could get them all, I'd probalby have gone Koenning, Walker, Chavis, Tenuta as my "perfect world" hires. So I am far from Chavis biggest fan. But that doesn't mean Miles hasn't hired an upper-echelon DC if belowpar is correct.

Haha, I figured he couldn't/wouldn't out himself, and that's completely understandable. I just thought maybe he'd throw me a bone.

Oh well. I won't look the gift horse in the mouth. I'm just glad we finally know something.

Thanks, belowpar

If Chavis does nothing more than get rid of the "It's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way" attitude and the "All I have to do to win is put on the gold helmet and show up on Saturday" approach that seemed to characterize too many of our defensive players this year, he will have made a great improvement. Given his personality and his track record, I expect a good bit more than that.
