Just finished talking to my friend and I got the entire scoop for y'all.
They own a beach house in Orange Beach. When the country shutdown last spring they moved to the beach house, and fell in love with the idea of living in this community. After things started to open up he put his 10 year old into a Gulf Shores football league, and helped coach. My friend Matt is one of the coaches and his son is the same age as Mark's. The kids struck up a friendship, so my friend started to get to know him and his family. My friend got with school administrators and asked what they thought about offering Mark the job. They laughed and said "no way he will come with ncaa division 1 schools after him.".
WRONG. He loved the idea. He told Matt "I brought my kids to school the other day, and realized I have no idea who they are." They negotiated a salary he could live with and that brings us to today.
I know Southern Miss was after him, as well as a few other smaller colleges. This is a chance to be a part of his 3 youngest children's lives. He missed watching his 2 kids in their 20's grow up and regrets it.
If any of you want to verify my "sauce" (which why would you, this isn't that big of news) just watch todays press conference. He thanks Matt Callihan. Matt has been a customer of mine for about 3 years and we've become friends.
Foley's football program is not what it used to be, and with the recent shift out of the county school system Gulf Shores is primed to take a big step forward. They are building a 69 million dollar high school. The second nicest high school in the state. Auburn HS built one not too long ago to the tune of 72 million.
