texas, UF, Neb. etc...

Seems like these days you have 3 years if your lucky at the top jobs. Lower tier schools seem to give you 4 or 5 see Ark, A&M, USCe etc... Is it that there are fewer and fewer good coaches out there ? or is the fact that most Colleges aren't giving their New hires enough time to succeed? Ncaa Head coaching jobs are becoming more and more like starting QB's in the NFL. You have 3 years and if you aren't any good then its time for a new one. The only catch to this is the buyouts are becoming more and more expensive.

I think the problem is that most schools these days think they can fire their coach after 3 years and be able to go out and grab a proven winner such as gary patterson, mike gundy etc only to have to fill the job with another unproven coach when that coach decides to stay. See UF, Tenn and looking like Texas now. I mean could Charlie strong have gone 6-6 or better this year at texas? probably but texas just knew they had their guy with herman. I actually think the best coach out there right now is Dan mullen the guy has won at Miss State. That is almost the same as James franklin winning at Vandy. My point to this post is if you have a good one : mullen , malzahn you better try and hold on to them because odds that new hot shot coach turns out to be urban meyer are slim and your coaching search will be looking for another coach in 3 years. This will be an interesting year when the dust settles on all the current openings in college football.

I agree! MIZZOU just got an unproven guy. But he is a MIZZOU guy and he is a good fit so far. MIZZOU almost made the same mistake to fire him because he was failing early on this season but got the players to buy into his system after he made some mistakes. One was earlier this year was not replacing the DC at the end of last year. But things were looking a little better at the end of last year. So went through a read and react system for another 7 or so months and it was not working in the SEC and almost cost him his job. Barry is a defense guy. So he was able to fire the DC and installed his system but it took his system time to get it to work. That is why the slow start. Next year I am thinking 8 or 9 wins in regular season if Drew Lock is back for another year. Sometimes you get lucky and MIZZOU caught a huge break when Florida, Tennessee, and others in conference going south. That help Barry to buy himself more time to get his system and players. AD is another critical one to have. If not a good to great AD then your school will more likely to fail.
