as best i can tell, this is what chizik brings to the table:

-above average DC

yup. that's it

it doesn't seem like he's got good personality, head coaching skills, recruiting ability, or a good track record as HC

but he can pull a miles and be a CEO-type as long as he hires completely competent coordinators. these guys have to do EVERYTHING. recruit, coach, gameplan, etc, and they need to be fully autonomous

i do think recruiting is more important than the Xs/Os. AU fell under tubby b/c of talent problems. Bama owns the in state, and Tubby kept AU alive with Fl/GA/Arky guys. chizik must keep these pipelines open, b/c he will lose going up against saban 9/10 times (or maybe more)

so who does chizik need to focus on?

would a guy like kevin steele jump ship and switch bama schools to be an actual DC?

could earl lane move on and keep the florida connections open?

This guy completely sucks as a coach. HE is merely a puppet for Saban.

Check out his time at Baylor.

but he can recruit, and chizik could prolly be a mini-saban on the Defensive side of the ball

I agree that Miles is a CEO type Head Coach, but why would he be "pulling a Miles" as if Les did something wrong? Fact is, the vast majority of coaches are CEO type coaches. Not that Les is in their league, but Paterno, Bowden, and Carroll have done well as CEO coaches who recruit good talent and hire good asst. coaches to coach them.
