How about Doug Marrone if Les leaves

Guy has ties to Louisiana (Former Saints OC) and has proven to be a damn fine coach in turning around an awful Syracuse team into a BCS conference title contender in short order.
I think he'd be a pretty damn good potential hire should Les choose to bolt.

Marrone is a great coach. The big question with him, amazingly, may be would he leave Syracuse for LSU?

He is the HC at his alma mater, the place he considers his home. He has repeatedly said that being the HC at Syracuse is his dream job.

True, but in naming him it brings me to another point.
There are plenty of coaches in the NFL (coordinators) that would be great potential hires if Les were to leave.
People are so focused on college coaches that are available, but there are legit coaches available in the NFL that are looking to get a head coaching shot.
The risk is for every Marrone there is a Weis.

i pretty much know nothing about him. if we got down through the list and kept swinging and missing, it would be an easier sell.

How much did you honestly know about Saban and Miles before they were hired? Maybe a blurb here or there, but outside of Miles beating OU twice, little was known by most.
The NFL coordinator ranks are where I'd look honestly rather than the college ranks.

I was very aware of Saban when he was hired at LSU. He was the hot top candidate for just about every college and NFL job then just as he is now.

No, it's not just any random coordinator, but if you want to simplify it to that you can.
The Weis hire was purely on the hype of the New England offense and Tom Brady. Weis was a bad choice for ND, but it doesn't mean other OCs or DCs in the NFL aren't.
I simply mean that with the right search, LSU could find a legitimate coach even if it's not the big name some people are obsessed with.

Who said we should flip through the phone book? Doing due diligence and finding the best coach within a reasonable price range and not overpaying for some big name is far better an investment for LSU.
I am not saying settle, but those involved in the search will be more in depth in their search than many on here. Sometimes the best choices aren't the biggest names out there.

Marrone would be a very solid hire but I don't think he would screw his alma mater over this late.
