Didn't petrino leave the same year he signed a big deal with Louisville?

Would make him the highest paid non-P5 coach. Houston is serious about succeeding in football.

There is also serious incentives.

5 million dollars if Houston gets a power 5 conference invite. 1 million per new years bowl game appearance

If he meets these he would be top 10 paid coach

If USC is serious about trying to get him (which I don't think they are), then the money has to start around 4. But the selling point that USC has over staying in Houston is infrastructure, facilities, and fan support.

Dunno if that's enough to get him, but the competitiveness of the offer isn't the salary. It's everything else.

By offering Herman this new contract, UH is trying to force his hand. If Herman agrees to it, he is staying there. If he says something like not wanting talk about a contract before the end of the season, then he is leaving. By offering him this contract, his hand is forced. The next reporter to see him will ask him if he is going to sign the new contract. His answer will tell you what he is going to do

I feel like Herman is gone no matter what. Maybe not this year, but soon. I feel like him staying even another year is just delaying the inevitable....

UofH........... Back to the drawing board

Good god. Houston is a commuter school that draws 20k per game

That's stupid money but they are trying to strike lighting in a bottle and know this is there one chance to get in the big 12

Yuuup.

I'd like to say that this ain't Tanner's first rodeo, but unfortunately, it is. I'm intrigued about what he's going to do in the next few days.

Surely, if Herman is his No. 1, he's got a fantastic backup option on deck. Right?

That offer means he's staying. He's not leaving for another 1M a year when he can just wait it out at Houston, continue his success and take the Texas job when it opens.

If he were to go to USC next year and go 5-7 that would take a lot of shine of his star, and he knows it's a major rebuild.

If he were doubling or tripling his salary then he may consider taking such a risk, but not now.

Herman will be willing to take 3.1 million for next year and his incentives which will be up to 1 mil instead of getting around 4 million from South Carolina so that he can sign for over 5 million a year at a top program, Texas later
