Here's a suggestion...

Not ideal, and not that probable, but how about Karl Dunbar? The guy has spent some time in the NFL, he's an LSU alum, he was an assistant under Miles in 2005, and in the early Saban years.
The guy has ties to the school, and it would be an ideal coaching opportunity for him. If any of you have ever met with Dunbar, you know that he means business. While I was in high school, and he was still at Okie State, we went down to the Lineman Camp in Thibodaux. He's a great teacher, as well as a motivator.
If you're looking for a coach that won't bail out on you 3 or 4 years down the road, Dunbar would appear to me the most suitable candidate in my opinion.

If he had any HC experience I think he would be an ideal candidate.

I say let Spurrier come in with dunbar as DC, with the knowledge that we're grooming dunbar to take over after SOS retires.

there is none. NOBODY has information unless you work in said athletic departments and have a position assigned to dealing with a coaching search. It's called a "coaching changes" board. Thus, you speak of possible coaching changes. There isn't going to be clear cut credible information. For all we know Miles is staying. Or that Miles is leaving, and we go and hire an unknown assistant or small time head coach like a Gary Christensen or Art Briles? Huh?

Patterson, that is exactly the kind is situation I would like to see. Dunbar as ASST Head Coach and DC. being groomed to take over when Spurrier retires.

Sorry, there's usually about one or two people that always come to the coaching changes board and say "stop the rumors" or "where's the link to prove that" when the board is nothing but a huge rumor mill. Although the board is very nice to have.
The most credible info you'd get on Spurrier is someone saying they or someone they know knows the booster and that talks are definitely happening. But who knows,

Brad, I played with KD and know him well. I think he is an outstanding person and coach; however, LSU is not the HC job he needs to break into. He would best be suited beefing up his resume' before taking control of one of the elite prograns in the country.
With a proven record as a HC at a more appropriate level, I would take him in a second....but, until that happens, we command a bigger catch.
Again, I know the man and admire the hell out of him, but nows not the time......no matter what your perception was at NSU.
......ahhhhhh I remember that camp. Was there when it was the 1st annual LSU Lineman camp......to be young again.

My perception of him was simple: "I would've been honored to be coached by him."
I agree that his resume needs to be beefed up. That is why I also agree that he would be a good fit as a DC.
It seems like it's more and more about staying within the family these days.
