Have there ever been this many good to great programs changing coaches in the same season?

PAC 12: USC, Washington, Washington State, potentially Arizona State

Big 12: TCU, Texas Tech

SEC: LSU, potentially Florida

ACC: Duke, Virginia Tech, potentially Miami

Big Ten: potentially Harbaugh

Well first off that list isn’t even that impressive. There’s 1 elite job on there, maybe two if Florida is open

Also

Wut

In 2016 LSU, Virginia Tech, Oregon, and Texas all open

I don't think Herm Edwards gets fired this year. But all of the others are definitely possible.

Add

ACC: Duke
Big 12: Baylor (Aranda is going to leave)
Pac 12: UCLA (maybe but looking less likely)

Harbaugh might be safe now...but that Ohio State game looms large.

Herm will "retire".

There’s a ton of big time programs looking for guys right now. But you need to take Arizona State and Michigan off that list. Edwards won’t get fired, and Harbaugh certainly won’t. Especially if he beats Ohio State at the big house this year.

Harbaugh was basically told either he beats Ohio State and makes the playoffs or he's out. He has the worst record all time as a head coach against ranked opponents.

Not really. What’s another OSU loss mean to them? They already have a bunch of those.

There’s no obvious upgrade out there so they’ll be happy with their 9-10 win season and this 2 week period where people will talk themselves into Michigan as a playoff team before getting whooped by OSU and they’ll start it over again

lol if you think USC is not an elite job. If they get the right coach they are in the playoff pretty much every year (see Carroll, Pete era 2002-2009)

Like I said, I think he's safe but I could also see the donors being pissed with another loss to Ohio St. There's a reason Harbaugh's deal got restructured. His seat is going to stay warm unless he beats Ohio St.

Michigan hasn't beaten Ohio St since 2011. Crazy.

This is the mistake people keep making. This is not an era that’s coming back with the whiff of a new coach. They are a lot like UT in that they have deeper program issues that need to be resolved. A coach isn’t coming in and whipping it into shape. And the entire infrastructure that Pete built at USC doesn’t exist anymore. Having snoop dogg on your sidelines isn’t moving the needle for high school players, those players are the celebrities now. USC has been trying to rekindle the Pete Carroll thing for 2 decades now and can’t do it.

But sure if you want to put them on that elite list just for the recruiting ground then go ahead. But that gap is only going to widen with the new SEC TV money that will be pouring in.

Either way This still isn’t an abnormally strong year for job openings.

They’ve been stuck in the same position the last few years. Like they probably should make a move and they know it. But if you make the move you need a real candidate to replace him and there’s not really a big obvious one out there that makes sense. (Especially knowing their obsession with “Michigan men”)

This year he can sell them on finally having a decent offense and another top 10-15 recruiting class

USC is one of the most decorated and historic programs i mention the PC era since that's relatively recent ie not like Army or something but a program that has won at a very high level in this century. It is also not meant to say they can or should replicate what PC did necessarily.

As far as systemic issues those too can be overcome by the right coach but he does need some administrative support, whether they have that or not i do not know.

But i 100% consider it an elite job regardless, there's too much potential there. More than enough recruiting talent in So Cal and an easy path to the playoff if you get it right.

Am i missing something about Harbaugh

His tenure has been marked by 3-5 losses every year. Now all he has to do is beat Maryland and he's playing tOSU for a B1G CG berth and a playoff if he wins that.
