Based on their own blue print, we will not be behind UT or LSU as long as we get the right hire. Those teams were terrible last year

Hardware and recruiting classes say otherwise. And UT is another year ahead in their rebuild and still has a shot at a NY6. Missing the Harsin hire has absolutely put Auburn a step behind.

The portal is great when you have to try and flip a roster in short order, but it’s also a crap shoot. It worked out ok for us, but this is still the weakest secondary we’ve had in a decade. It was a patch job. House has just been able to hide that against everyone except UT. It didn’t work out as well as expected for OM either, despite Lane’s self-appointed title as the Portal King.

The portal is great for filling a couple of key spots, but any program trying to build from there is going to struggle to find any consistency. And teams that have a year or two jump on you and have transitioned back to prioritizing HS recruiting ARE ahead of you. That’s not changing.

We would have been a 4 win team without all our transfers. It did very well for us

People talking shite about Ole Miss's season don't know shite. This is a rebuilding season and Kiffin got 8 wins out of a young but talented team with one elite SEC defensive lineman. Dart at this point is a limited QB who should only get better. Kiffin has done more with Ole Miss than most could do.

My point was that your replacements were definitely not just plug and play substitutes for the players you lost like some in sports media assumed pre-season. For example, Dart isn’t on the same planet as Corral and I think a lot of talking heads expected him to be a reasonable replacement by the end of the season.

I’m not taking a shot at OM or Kiffin with this. Like us, you guys had to use the portal to fill multiple roster holes. I’m just pointing out that most teams aren’t getting star players from there. It’s mostly a few good starters, depth, and some guys that don’t end up working out. It’s not a magic wand.
