First time AD says Chris Ash had best interview he's ever conducted.

Dude's interviewed adjunct professors and research fellows not football coaches.
Rutgers operates deep in the hole and this is only going to be more of the same disaster.
At least Ash learned from Bert how to work within a budget and to prepare a plan. It's still going to set Rutgers back another decade.

I mean, that's probably not right, but Ash is a rising star in the industry.

The animosity Arkansas fans have regarding Chris Ash comes close to the kind LSU fans have regarding Chavis.
Its kind of silly.
He did not do well at Arkansas. He did well at Wisconsin and he did well at Ohio State. Do you think Urban Meyer hires terrible coaches?
Just let it go. Arkansas fans should not be this bent out of shape over someone like Chris Ash.

Arkansas ranked 76th in the nation in total defense in Ash's lone year on the job.
This year, with two years under Bielema to recruit and get better guys, they ranked 72nd and gave up 9 fewer yards per game.
They just pissed because they sucked in 2013 and he's an easy out since he doesn't coach there anymore.

i don't think ash is a shitty coach, but i think he runs an NFL shcheme that's too complex for most college players to fully grasp. for his sheme to really work you need a shite ton of upperclassmen with expxerience
the thing that rob smith did was make our defense stop having to think and start being able to react by dumming down the playbook and focusing on fundementals

Being a great defensive coordinator and being a good head coach can be mutually exclusive. Being a head coach has less to do with strategy and formations than it does with leadership, psychology and personality. You need knowledge of both, but they are completely different skill sets.
Lots of top-notch championship-level defensive coordinators flame out as head coaches. See Bo Pelini and Will Muschamp. And then you get a guy like Dabo Swinney who was never even a coordinator at any point in his career. He's not winning because he's a dynamic tactician. He's winning because he changed the culture, improved recruiting, and his players will go through a brick wall for him. Same for Mike Gundy, who was never a spectacular OC.
Point is, saying this is a horrific hire because he's a bad defensive coordinator is comparing apples and oranges.
You know Chris Ash is going to fail? Not because he's a shitty DC. It's because he plays in a division of the Big 10 where the best he can hope for EVER is 5th place, and Rutgers doesn't really give a shite about college football and there is no football (or sports) culture at that school.

Look Ash has a touch of the tard gene. He's idiot savant when it comes to blitz packages and the chalkboard.
He's not great at fundamentals, recruiting, or the personal smoozing it takes to be a HC.
Bert is a pro at handling a room and placating donors and media.
Ash has none of those qualities and Rutgers will be worse off for the hire.
