actually, his offense in year one at louisville, when he had nfl quality talent, was extremely potent, they just had a MISERABLE defense

and currently, louisvilles offensive personnel is garbage, hence the shitty numbers

so is he more of a diamond in the rough guy?

I'm excited that LSU is talking to other potential OCs, but is Kragthorpe the answer? That offense went way downhill about a year after Petrino left.

And Tulsa had a terrific offense 2 years ago when Malzahn took it over.

What's so great about the guy?

But who's fault is it that Lousiville had shitty personnel? He did have 3 years as head coach. Can he not recruit?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but if Tulsa improved after he left, I don't see why this guy would be such a sought after OC.

I just want a guy who isn't obsessed with his own genius. I swear, I've never understood the virtue of a run-of-the-mill offesnive co-ordiantor until Crowton. Just line up and play.

Anything would be an improvement. Just let our players play.

Why is this a bad thing? If a coach turned around Temple, and they continued to improve for a couple of years after he left, would you count that against him too?

From what I hear he uses something called a 'screen pass' or something apparently the linemen dont block anyone and you throw it to a rb that sneaks behind the defensive line. Sounds pretty off the wall, but hey you never know, it just might catch on with the rest of the NCAA.

i know pioneer will disagree with me here

bobby petrino was a disciplinarian that had the fear of god in his players ON THE FIELD. problem was, he didnt give a frick what they did off the field as long as they didnt interfere with the football program

when kragthorpe got here, he had to kick numerous players off the team. for grades, detrimental conduct, etc. frick, one player held up a gas station at gun point in his home town. it was really bad

so kragthorpe had to fill up the team, and had to go with some juco guys, which are hit or miss, and there have been some misses up here.

i honestly think that krag is a very good offensive mind, as was evident at tulsa, he just doesnt have the guys anymore

1. He can develop QBs.
2. He runs a pro-style offense.
3. His offense was potent at Tulsa.
4. He's not Gary Crowton.

not do defend him, but IMO, Crowton has a better background. (meaning before LSU, and at least his first 2 years here)

Tulsa's offense improved tremendously not only in '07, but '08 as well, two years after Kragthorpe left. Gus Malzhan took over as Tulsa's OC and did a MUCH better job than Kragthorpe.

Then Krag goes to Louisville and they had downhill three straight seasons.

So, let's recap. He leaves Tulsa and the Golden Hurricanes offense steadily improves. He arrives in Louisville and their offense declines three straight years.

Good post. I'm not disagreeing that Crowton should be kept, but he had a really nice resume before arriving in BR.

lol

louisville under kragthorpe in 2007 (and lsu has better players than louisvilel mind you)

6th in yards per game at 501
4th in passing yards per game at 355
65th in rushing yards per game at 146 (passing offense mind you)
19th in ppg at 35

so before you spout off mindless drivel, check out the stats

ypg went up from 06-07
passing ypg went up from 06-07
rushing ypg went down from 06-07
ppg went down by 2 points from 06-07

so no, his offense didnt get worse all around in his first year

Now post his stats the past two years. Then we can see the full effect of what happened after Bobby Petrino left.

Anybody is better than what we have. I think the issue is how good Kragthorpe is compared to other potential hires. Let's not even bring Crowton into the discussion here.
