but few have actual reasons other than "no!". strategically speaking, why do you like or dislike a particular coaching candidate. its very similar to party lines. "he thinks like me". "he looks like me." are there any examples of football acumen or the lack thereof that can support opinions?

I’ve explained my stance.

I want a guy currently having success as a DC in today’s college football. I don’t care what school he is at.

I have always felt this way. I don’t want a failed HC reverting back to DC, because I simply do not trust them to have success. I don’t agree with the excuse of talent and being a HC. I never liked the Pelini hire because of this and that proved to be true. I was absolutely bashed for disapproving of the Pelini hire. He had militant-like support around here. Pelini had not been successful in over a decade as a DC imo.

Mason hasn’t been a sole DC since like 2012? He was sole DC for like one season.

I don’t want the risk, but that’s simply an opinion. I’m certainly not going to be pissed about it. It would just be disappointing to me. Of course I could be wrong.

thanks, beau. this wasnt a mason specific post, just pointing out that everyone spouts yes or no, but theres not much to back up either opinion. say for instance, i dont want a coach who will insist on putting danny mccray on percy harvin. i wouldnt want a paul johnson to come in and try and run the triple option. i wouldnt want a guy to run a 3-4 with 250 pound down linemen against the old brett bielema, 360 lb arkansas o line.
