Every cycle we have 4-5 guys get the media rinse as the next program builders, the next gurus, and the next locks to win titles in a few years and turn around dead programs

Every year we also see 3-4 of those same type of guys get canned


It’s hilarious to see people melting about Kelly but falling over themselves to stump for Fickell (especially Fickell given Kelly’s own success at Cincy), Napier, Campbell, and even Rhule to a certain extent.

Those guys are all benefitting from not having to manage a big time program every season and maintaining that level of success. It’s fun as a fan because you get to set this limitless potential for the coach while ignoring any potential outfall

And don’t get me wrong it’s entirely possible that one of those guys ends up being a rockstar coach. But stop convincing yourself it’s a lock because you’ve been told how smooth they are in an Athletic piece
